By the way, I complain about Amazon’s size and tactics to friends a lot, but I have to say that for those of my family members and friends who work service/retail/manufacturing jobs, Amazon has been a godsend. Not because they work for Amazon, but the fact that it’s so easy to go get a good-paying job with Amazon means that their pay and on-the-job treatment by their employers have increased greatly. Smart employers won’t treat employees like sh#t if they know that the next day the person could be making ~$20/hr at Amazon.

Well thats something I heard 6 or so months ago and still have not been able to confirm. No since trying to keep it hush hush any longer. If someone confirms it more power to them. I hit deaf ears and silence so I think something may have been or is up.

We'll they've got the data center coming online in Gallatin.

Why not get an office beach head in a market like Nashville with Amazon having the 3 towers (maybe 80+ (pushing 90) stories of office?) And Oracle developing half a whole river bank (Interesting how their HQ in CA is also on waterfront).  But a big presence in Nashville.
Facebook could develop across the river from Oracle in the germantown part of town.  I don't know if there's developable land along the river here tho...  Other spot of course that more into town wold be Gulch, or by Vandy. 
Although being adjacent to The Yards is not a bad spot. Could be part of a tech synergy with AAF (amazon asurion fbook) .

What if Facebook went all out and bought the Icahn scrapyard site and made that into “Meta City”?

What I was hearing was the Gulch. This is what makes me think it was the rumored campus going on the 11 South apartment site. I know that a certain company was looking at the site for an office campus there. There has been core drilling done at the location. The company that was looking at it is doing two other projects in town. Now they were contacted and really said it was all just very preliminary and nothing to it. 

I have heard the 11 North site may have been under contract from 2 different sources last year. That all may have changed. I figure I may well now go for broke as we have heard nothing else and maybe we can beat the bushes here and force the rats into the open and put some public pressure on any Metro busy bodies that wanted to keep it secret. we reached out to a few folks and got some interesting responses from IDK, to no response, and silence. The silence in a response sometimes is very loud.

Facebook or Meta is not in good financial shape right now, so all of this may have changed.

Yep. If memory serves, Meta (FB parent co.) lost somewhere in the range of $250-300 BILLION in market capitalization in the past couple of weeks. Around 30% of it's value wiped out in a week or 2. Purely a guess, but I'd speculate they're sitting tight for the foreseeable future.  Next earnings report end of April.

They are still making a ton of money, growth rate has slowed. Intense competition from Tik tok. They also just signed a huge lease in Austin.

I thought the whole point of the Metaverse is that it does not exist in real life.  They should build out a massive corporate campus on the metaverse and have the back-story for that virtual property be that it used to be a scrap metal yard in the metaverse but they cleaned it up and revitalized that underutilized virtual real estate.

They’ll build it at the scrapyard…but you can only see it if you have VR glasses on.

Just an opinion from an old architect who worked for one of the leading design firms in Healthcare in the US and even the world.  Amazon has certainly grown beyond the expectations for Nashville as one of their corporate centers.   I think that the massive entry of Amazon into healthcare will be HUGE and Nashville is the most likely choice to center the whole operation as Nashville is already the center of so many healthcare corporations presense.  I predict that new facilities to house this new Amazon divison will absolutely dwarf the 3 huge buildings in NY.    Look for 60 stories or more when this soon happens.

Very interesting! Wouldn't a 60 story commercial building be at minimum ~787' tall?

I said this was my OPINION.  I have been retired for over 2 years, have lived here for 60+ years and directly experienced a huge number of vacant lots and homeless camps become 20 to 30 story buildings here.  I was on the design teams for two of Nashville's largest hospital complexes and dozens of other Nashville based hospital corporation projects for over 20 years.  If you seem to think I need more inside information to come up with an idea of what MAY be coming down the road here you are SOL.  Sorry.    Like Ron (Smeagol), even on the remote possibility I had insider information as he often does, I probably would not be at liberty to reveal it anyway.  I'm afraid you will just have to wait and see what the future brings.

I totally agree @Baronakim. If Amazon enters the Healthcare as expected, Nashville seems the logical choice for its headquarters. I believe that was the driving force behind them coming to town in the first place. And yes , they will need a lot of floor space. I would hope for it to be one or two large and tall buildings, but Amazon has a history of spreading out over many 20-30 story buildings. And I will take a walk onto the limb , and say that it not necessarily will be part of NY. I could see it maybe as part of Reed or Beaman or to go way out on the limb The Tishman project.

I think the "spreading out" may be not as likely as it was back in 2017 when Amazon started poking around  here in Nashville.  Should a major project come forth in healthcare, the time when you could find  land with the luxury to stay 20 to 30 stories is eroding rapidly, at least for an affordable price.   Surely, such a facility would be desirable to be proximate to the NY offices.  Oracle and the stadium have for the most part preempted the sites across the river.     In my estimation I think TALL is the more likely  option to locate close to their NY core.  I also think that Amazon would want to go for spectacular over their established norm in this one endeavor.  Just an opinion though.

Amazon is going to eliminate another 9,000 jobs companywide — a 50% boost to the cuts announced at the start of the year.

After announcing in January plans to cut 18,000 workers, CEO Andy Jassy wrote in a March 20 memo to employees that 9,000 more corporate and technology positions will be eliminated "in the next few weeks."

At last count, Amazon had roughly 3,000 employees tied to its Nashville offices, which comprise two towers on Church Street. One is open; Amazon paused work on the office floors of the second tower last summer, citing a need to redesign the space to account for more hybrid work.

Amazon has not disclosed the extent of the reductions for specific cities.
