But this additional paragraph below also was posted to their FB page, so it sounds like they might be planning something else ... maybe even at that site? With the arrival of late-night places like The Pub and Bar Louie, I wonder if MCF is going to try something similiar to that nightlife/bar concept.

I don't mind Bar Louie's food and we occasionally eat there but the place, for the most part, is too loud and too crowded. The Pub seems to be operating in the same arena as does Whiskey Kitchen. I would hope everything doesn't have to turn into a destination bar for 20 somethings in order to sustain itself here.

Tennessean gets points for having some detail. Seems like a crap deal for the staff.

Seems like working for a failing restaurant is also a crap deal for the staff. Generally servers/waitstaff can't afford to take a month or two off work while the restaurant retools.

Well right, they can't wait for a retool but in this case it sounds like owner got bored more than the place was clearly failing so maybe wasn't super evident that they should be looking. Hopefully for their sake there was a bit of severance or something. One of the luxuries of white collar sort of gigs is there is generally an inability of business to rapidly change course so you can be out before crap hits the fan.

Sooooo...any other news for the Gulch?

Surely the location for MCF will get scooped up fairly quickly.

404 looks close to opening today, at least the restaurant part. The available sign that used to be on the corner by the tobacco store is gone (and has been for a few weeks at least), probably doesn't mean anything. And JE Dunn has a big banner on the interstate side of the Hensler building that I don't recall seeing until today. In other words not much:)

I actually found this last month and sent the info to WW and he has been digging. As far as I can see they are looking at the only available land on Vantage way. This sits in between the Downtown Nissan and the medical office that is on the corner of French Landing and Vantage.

The site is owned by another entity and the Residential Group out of Atlanta that did the West End Village Apartments are looking to do a mixed use project. The aim is to change the zoning from IWD to MUG. This would allow for more sq. ft. development along with Residential and retail. The plan says high intensity mixed use. Plans are fluid right now, but council approval is expected.

The interesting part of this land is that it backs up to 3rd Ave N. so conceivably they could have another entrance from third into Metro Center. This is also close to German town. It would also be a groundbreaking area for residential as there is none on this side of Rosa Parks in Metro Center. I guess we will have to wait and see what the plans end up looking like. I am not holding my breath for anything spectacular based on how West End Village turned out, but they may surprise us.

Total area 11.18 acres.
