We need more apartments because we don't have enough proposed or getting built currently:

C. Z 20-2013.  Application of Woodfield Acquisitions, LLC (Bon Secours St. Francis Health, Owner) for a Land Development Permit (Multifamily Residential) pursuant to Section 19-2.3.13, Land Development, of the Greenville City Code for a portion of property located at Laurens Rd and Innovation Dr, zoned 'S-1', Service, District, and consisting of approximately 17.44 acres of land proposed to be developed with 330 multifamily dwelling units (TMS # M010030100902).

Greenville really does need more apartments actually. When you are paying more for a 700 sq.ft 1 bedroom apartment than you would on a mortgage, then the market is demanding more units. Wish these apartments were a little more urban, maybe with all the parking in the back. Hopefully some decent multifamily comes to the campus soon enough (thinking townhomes or something like that).

Greenville Tech and Clemson University have partnered to create an advanced manufacturing center in Greenville.

The two institutions announced Tuesday the creation of the Center for Manufacturing Innovation (CMI), an institution that will educate the advanced manufacturing workforce to serve the automotive, transportation and other high techicon1.png sectors.

“Today we celebrate another important partnership with Greenville Technical College to provide the advanced manufacturing workforce education our community needs,” said Jim Barker,retiringicon1.png Clemson University President.

The new center will be located at the Millennium Campus, next to Clemson University International Center for Automotiveicon1.png Research (CU-ICAR).

This project has been cancelled.

This was casually mentioned in an article in the Greenville Journal, but was news to me.   This is not to be confused with the Greenville Tech Enterprise campus, which will be in ICAR proper.

NEXT High School, a charter school that will have a project-based, technology-focused curriculum, is scheduled to open in fall 2015 in the former Hollingsworth on Wheels administration building.

Interesting: http://www.gsabusiness.com/news/50535-megachurch-reaffirms-plans-for-expansion-near-cu-icar?rss=0 At least it will be on a different site. The site they originally wanted will be home to Greenville Tech's Advanced Manufacturing Cemter.

According to the Greenville News, NewSpring is NOT coming to ICAR.

From Gville News

A Michigan-based automation company said it is expanding its North American operations by establishing an office at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research in Greenville.

Esys Automation, headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan, joins more than 17 industry partners at CU-ICAR's Center for Emerging Technologies as the first automation service provider.

The company works with the automotive and aerospace industries, operating across North America, including Canada and Mexico. It wasn’t known Tuesday how many employees Esys will have at ICAR.

“CU-ICAR has created a very powerful and innovative way for OEMs (original equipment manufacturers), suppliers, research and education to collaborate in mutually beneficial ways,” said Dave Valentine, Esys Automation’s president.

With state and county support, training programs and technical workforce, “it became clear that there is a very strategic advantage for us to expand into the Greenville area,” Valentine said. “This expansion will allow Esys to enhance support to our existing customers and provide a solid foundation to grow our business in the Southeast region."

Suzanne Dickerson, director of business development at CU-ICAR, said Esys' decision to locate at CU-ICAR “is an exciting complement to the growing eco-system of successful automotive companies in the Upstate of South Carolina.”

Esys twice has been recognized by Inc. 500 as one of the fastest growing companies in the United States. The company provides automation design, simulation and machine building, including robotic systems and industry-specific software solutions.

CU-ICAR is a 250-acre advanced-technology research campus where university, industry and government organizations collaborate. The campus has industrial-scale laboratories and testing equipment in facilities available for commercial use.

US Economic Development Administration awards $2 million toward new office building at ICAR.

This is going to round out the first technology neighborhood very well. From what I understand, the graduate program has exceeded their original vision, and is well above their projected enrollment. Look for it to continue to grow.
