I'm assuming there's a new tenant taking over the full space already, but I don't know that for sure.

In an effort to keep the chamber located in the building, the entire building is getting a relatively big renovation. Edited by Guest

Should we be optimistic of retail for this spot or no?

The proposed renovations at the uptown office building would include the installation of a new 14-foot curtain wall, or outer skin, at the street level of the building, as well as an expanded exterior patio with flamed granite pavers and a glass guardrail system, according to real estate records.

Grubb bought the building and is doing the renovations. They have a good track record so I'm sure that the retail spots will stay inact and get improved upon.

Actually, just found out that the ground floor space is being renovated for the Chamber. There will be some changes to the entrance and stuff, but they are moving down.

Leave it to Charlotte Chamber to eliminate retail, ugh.

I want to eat at local places and I'm always scared that it'll be too expensive and have to embarrassingly leave. Places in Uptown, NoDa, Plaza, Elizabeth, Dilworth & SouthEnd.

Pikes I always thought looked to expensive. But I just went on their website and it's not so I will try them :)

I've had Penguin, Merts & Queen City Q and thought they were not expensive.

Any list of affordable places in center city that's local/quirky?

Also Lupie's Cafe where 7th turns into Monroe. Go on a Thursday. Probably the best chicken and dumplings in town.

But you can't forget about their chili! My favorite is Texas Chili Mac with cheese - basically spaghetti covered in spicy chili and cheese. Not good for you by all means but F'n delicious! Any the daily specials are always good, too, as go_vertical mentioned. The chicken and dumplings are awesome, as are all the daily specials - no matter what day of the week, the special is a good bet. I think the only place in Charlotte to get better C&D is maybe Dish in Plaza Midwood (IMO).

I visit the one in Huntersville often. I agree, the Chili Mac is awesome

There's one in Huntersville too?????

Lupie's?

Yes. It's like the only thing in downtown Huntersville right at the intersection of Gilead & Old Statesville. I assume the owners must be gay because there are lots of gay pictures and such in there. It's is good and great prices and the chicken & dumplings are awesome.

Yes, as AirNostrumMAD already said. It's been there for 5 or 6 years...maybe a little longer. Lupie's daughter used to be there daily but haven't seen her in awhile. I assume they have a manager who runs it from day to day. Menu/Food is the same (as best I can tell...I don't get to the one on Monroe much). Honestly haven't noticed the pictures, but I think it's safe to say they are open minded.

Probably because our rural legislators think the Charlotte is socialist and trying to lure these companies to HogWash, Lizard Lick & Mayberry instead of CLT/Asheville/Triad/Wilmington/Triangle

Atlanta is also closer to the Mercedes Benz manufacturing plant in Tuscaloosa, AL.  This probably also plays into the equation.
