A couple weeks ago I noticed that there appears to be some upfitting in the now closed Augusta/Faris fire station. Does anyone know what is going on?

If this article is still correct: https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/local/asklafleur/2021/07/21/augusta-street-traffic-lines-why-old-fire-station-scdot/8023840002/

As for what is going in at the site, Ted Lyerly with NAI Earle Furman reached out with an update on Wednesday. Lyerly said Sherwin Williams will open a new store on the ground floor and use the top floor for their regional office.

Lyerly added they will demolish the existing Sherwin Williams building and b a new 2,800 square foot retail building in its place to match the architectural style of the rest of the shopping center.

Lyerly said they will also remove the back fence and connect the parking lot to Augusta Street to provide better parking and traffic flow. He said they hope to lease the new building “to a very cool tenant,” probably in 2022.

The Vista for the old Burrow location.

The Cheese Wheel is now open.

A new tenant (skin or hair place it looks like) going in next to the Cheese Wheel. Work now underway for that.

The Nested Fig is now under construction.

Renovations to the old fire station are now underway.

Tasty as Fit has closed.

Work underway for a new tenant for the former Coast space.

The Skin Bar is now open.

Updated plans for Augusta Improvements Phase 2

https://www.greenvillesc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/26608/2903_AUGUSTA-ST_ROLL-PLOTS_02262024?bidId=

Slightly annoyed the city succumbed to the NIMBYs will to remove the small road diet/lane realignment in the commercial section, but ultimately these incremental changes (alongside the big utility undergrounding) will still make a good difference.

I'm annoyed too. That was 90% of the benefits of this project. The NIMBYs strike again.  Without the road diet, cars are going to continue to speed through there making it unsafe for pedestrians and bikes.

Speeding through that heavy commercial area.? You can barely move through now with the congestion.  Just don't see much speeding through that area unless it's after hours. Total different beast than the residential end.

Yeah my issue wasn't the speeding as much as the interference between left turns from the travel lanes and having to change lanes to get around them, people pulling in and out of the million curb cuts, people waiting forever to turn left out of shopping plazas during busy times, telephone poles and random signs/trees making it impossible to see oncoming traffic. There's just so much going on in that stretch and simplifying the traffic patterns and eliminating the visual noise will go a long way to making it a better travel experience.

My hope is that the road diet is not completely off the table. I hope they implement all their ideas that don't have much opposition, then come back later and run a trial by changing the lane line paint overnight and see if it improves things or not. They proved in the residential section that this would be an easy and quick way to see the impact.
