The Good News Report

I would guess Regions as I heard they are busting at the seams in their offices and have multiple locations around town. Great news if it is true and there is a Regions named tower in most major southeastern cities.

Article from Business Journal last fall

http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/blog/bank_notes/2015/09/regions-bank-chief-on-employee-growth-spurt-in.html

and Regions bought Black Arch Partners investment bank

I just read up on Regions bank's activity in the Charlotte area and at the rate they're expanding and the interest they're obviously showing the Charlotte market, it would make perfect sense for them to be the southeastern bank in question. Sun trust doesn't have a reason to honestly.

Another I'm wondering about is BB&T. Their CEO is set to retire June 30. Could that mean a major shift in management (location maybe)? BB&T is from Winston-Salem so it's definitely southeastern. It's also the third largest bank in the Charlotte region by deposits and has beat estimates by a good bit for growth this last quarter. They already have 1900 employees in Charlotte, if they move the HQ here and continue with that high growth, they could easily be the anchor tenant on something. But that's just a dream most likely. I doubt BB&T would leave winston.

I don't think any bank will be announcing a HQ relocation. However, all of these banks are expanding their operations here because this has become the de facto location for jobs related to financial services outside of NYC. In addition, it has become the best "middle office" market location for the FIRE industry to expand.

File this under complete speculation on my part, but I think Charlotte is inching ever closer to being officially designated the HQ of Ally Financial.  The CEO, CFO, and Head of the Banking unit are all based in Charlotte, and I just read this morning that the Chief Risk Officer is moving from Detroit to Charlotte.  Add the fact that financial statements and shareholders meetings are conducted in Charlotte and the fact that they just bought Tradeking, whose CEO is based in CLT (and will stay on as part of the management team) as well I believe, and it is hard to argue that the defacto HQ isn't already here.  Now I think it won't be too long before it becomes official.

And the Observer reports that the new General Counsel will be based in Charlotte as soon as the outgoing counsel retires in September.  The executive team looks to be migrating to Charlotte quickly.

#3 for "Living Environment" as long as you're not LGBT.  That said, I remember the days when NC was #1 back in the 1990's.

According to the emerging trends report done by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Urban Land institute for 2016, Charlotte is consistently rated as one of the best areas to watch across the board and coming in at number 3 on the list of U.S. Markets to Watch: Overall Real Estate Prospects (page 41), only after Dallas and Austin. Charlotte also ranks as best in the south region for hotel prospects.
