Willie Nelson returns to the Nat on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 at 8PM (doors at 7PM.) Tickets are $50.00 for reserved balcony seats and $45.00 for standees on the orchestra level. All tickets go on sale at usual outlets (including the theatre box office) next Wednesday, December 23rd.

A pair of tix for this concert would make a nice last-minute Christmas gift.good.gif

A little Nat Chat:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ROBIN THOMPSON AND HIS BAND perform tonight, Saturday, 1/16/10.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone complained that SEAN PAUL had seven opening acts beginning at 9PM last night and as a result he didn't perform 'til after Midnight. Maybe the backstage hot tub is too relaxing. Sometimes so much splashing goes on in there that the kitchen directly underneath at Gibson's Grill has been known to complain of leakage.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WILCO, scheduled for March 29th, sold out seven minutes after tickets went on sale.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DISCO BISCUITS is in for two nights, April 16th and 17th.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Among other hot tickets should be:

OF MONTREAL, Jan. 30

WILLY NELSON, Feb. 16

ALICE IN CHAINS, March 5

THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS, March 11

ELVIS COSTELLO, April 24.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\

Richmond favorite son Elliot Yamin has performed at Innsbrook and at Norfolk's NorVa. Why has he never appeared on the National stage?

Snow and ice falling from the sloping tiled roof of The National is causing some problems.

Check out this video from Richmond's CBS Chanel 6 that was picked up by the Los Angeles Times:

This was provided on the Richmond Off Topic thread by our contributor 540-804 (otherwise known as Jay.)

When you open the site you'll have to scroll down the body of the story to see the video.

CITIZEN COPE which was on the Nat's schedule for tonight has been postponed due to blizzard like conditions in the Mid-Atlantic region. The group, I believe, was scheduled to play a date in Towson, Maryland before arriving at The National for tonight's show. CITIZEN COPE will be rescheduled and pre-purchased tickets will be honored.

It was announced yesterday on the Nat's facebook page that additional tickets have been released for WIDESPREAD PANIC on April 26th and 27th available while they last (2 ticket limit per sale) through all Ticketmaster outlets and at www.nattickets.com.

As always, you are urged to visit the theater's website to verify anything I write here: thumbsup.gif

I think it's odd that The Hilton Garden Inn, directly across Broad Street from The Marriott, is not listed among nearby hotels in the "venue Information" section under Maps and Directions on the Nat's Home page.

If you click around, you'll find these near and not-so-near hotels listed on the Nat's website:

Marriott

Omni

Crown Plaza

Commonwealth Park Suites

Berkeley

Linden Row Inn

The Jefferson

The Richmond Downtown Hilton Garden Inn, 2 blocks west of The Nat at Broad and 5th Streets, has 250 quality rooms -- all of which are cheaper than The Marriott.

People travel from miles away to see performers at The National. In fact, I'd be curious to learn what percentage of ticket-buyers book hotel rooms in Richmond.

I bet a quarter that a lot of entertainers check into Hilton Garden Inn because of its lower rates and proximity to the city's Theatre District. thumbsup.gif

OK, so I don't know anything about facebooks. But I do sneak into the National's from time to time.

They have, as I write this, 9,451 fans and, if I understand it correctly, they are trying to double that number.

The Norva in Norfolk has 13,089. However, Norva will be celebrating its 10th year of operation very soon and The Nat has been open for two years and is beginning its third.

If you want to sign on, I'm sure they would be happy to welcome you aboard. :whistling:

There's a photo among a set of pictures on the Nat's Facebook page of of the crowd at Willie Nelson's last appearance at The Nat in March of 2008. I bet many of those people will be at the theatre again tomorrow night to welcome Nelson back. rolleyes.gif .

Go to the facebook and click fan photos on the left of the page. There are 32 pix and the one of the crowd mentioned above is the last one on page 2 of the set.

Someone on the Nat's facebook kvetched about having bought tickets way back in October to see last night's sold out Tegan & Sara concert only to learn that customers at GIBSON'S GRILL were allowed entry into the theatre 15 minutes before doors opened to the general public. This particular person had been sitting outside the theatre for hours in hopes of being one of the first inside.

It has been pretty well advertised on the facebook: Diners at GIBSON's who spend a minimum of $10 per person for food are, indeed, allowed early entry. There is an elevator in the building that carries restaurant customers to the balcony level of the theatre.

I don't know whether or not the restaurants accepts reservations, but the GIBSON'S GRILL phone number is: 804/644-2637.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The number of fans on the facebook has grown by 412 since February 11th and is only 137 from the 10,000 mark.

SOJA had been booked into The Hat Factory on April 10th, but has switched to The National on the same date.

http://www.thenationalva.com

The National has announced The Goo Goo Dolls for Tuesday, April 20th at 8PM. Tickets on sale tomorrow Saturday February 20th at the usual outlets.

The number of Facebook fans at The National has risen to 9,980 -- just twenty shy of their goal of 10,000.

Nat notes:

The ALICE IN CHAINS concert tomorrow (Friday March 5th) is sold out according to the National Facebook.

Downtown should be pretty crowded tomorrow night with CAA basketball at The Coliseum, Virginia Opera's DON GIOVANNI at The Carpenter Theatre, OTHELLO at The Gottwald Playhouse and First Friday Art Walk which, during March, is being expanded east along Broad and Grace to the State Capital.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The campaign to increase the number of National Facebook fans beyond the ten-thousand mark is now 10,718.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FLOGGING MOLLY, which I'm pretty sure appeared during the National's first year, is returning for a date on Thursday, April 29th.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also booked in is PORCUPINE TREE arriving on Tuesday, May 11th.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a neat picture of the crowd for Wilco Monday, March 29th at The Nat:

http://thebutterroom...lco-from-a-view

I've heard that a segment of the sold-out house for the Wilco concert was very rude -- chattering endlessly, especially during accoustic selections. The Wilco group, it has been said, requested attention and courtesy from the audience more than once.
