HEY, LOOK. If this pic is not photo-shopped, The National has gone modern with its marquee. It would appear they will no longer have to haul out a ladder and meticulously hang individual letters.:thumbsup:http://www.facebook....&type=1
Oooops! I'm afraid I'm wrong It looks like the marquee picture I referenced above is one of four finalist Widespread Panic poster submissions. It is odd to me though that the Nat doesn't have a digital marquee like their Carpenter Theatre neighbor.

It's so refreshing to see coverage of concerts at The National.

RVANews, while not providing a review of the show, has posted a string of photos of Bon Iver and his band playing on the Nat's stage Saturday night.

And I want to apologize to anyone I may have misled (the posting immediately above this one) although the correct JULY 30th date was in the accompanying link.

Mea culpa.

The Richmond Jazz Festival is this Saturday and Sunday. Most of the activities will take place outdoors on the extensive grounds of Maymont. There will be two stages separated by an 8 minute walk. See "Events" thread for details.

Thursday (tonight 8/11) an event called Homegrown at The Hipp featuring local jazz musicians will be held at The Hippodrome theatre on North 2nd between Clay and Leigh Streets.

Meanwhile, UNDEROATH will appear at The National tonight. Doors at 6PM, show at 7PM.

Tomorrow (Friday 8/12) BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY will be on stage at The Carpenter Theatre at 6:30PM. About the time that show breaks, doors at The National, a block away, will open for the 9PM show of BOOMBOX.

I'm not aware that The National has done shows for kids, but KELLER WILLIAMS -- KIDS MATINEE is being offered at 2:30PM on Thursday, December 29th (during the holiday week.)

There will also be an evening show the same date at 8pm for adults called KELLER WILLIAMS - THE PIMPS OF JOYTIME.

I suspect they'll stash away the booze and bring out the soda pop for the kiddie matinee.
