- The campus being sold is "on hold"...

- Lynn Harton states Greenville will be a TD Bank hub and additional jobs are probably on the way....

- For the last week, the 2nd largest building at the campus, which had been dark, had been lit at night and has some sort of internal activity going on.....

Hmmmm......

There is a rumor going around that Project Wave might be TD Bank and that they'll put a call/operations center at the I-85 campus. This is strictly a rumor though so take it with a dump truck full of salt. Also, Sage Automotive is currently located in the other building on campus and will be moving to ICAR once the CET building is complete.

Collin Mackie to expand

Great news. Nice to see some office space being soaked up DT. Between Collin Mackie, Master Power Transmission and some space in the Sun Trust building leased by GHS, there might be a nice little reduction in our DT vacancy rate, in the next quarterly report.

A falling vacancy rate could help secure financing for Washington Square too, the economy being what it is.

I'd like to see Clemson take the ENTIRE Bowater building eventually. Maybe they could even sell their Ice Cream and other farm products from the ground level. Something to give people a reason to stay on that side of the Liberty Bridge.

Project Forest:

$2.5 Million manufacturing investment and 30 new jobs in northern Anderson County along I-85. Future expansion and a potential new joint industrial park are among the possibilities being discussed by Anderson and Greenville County officials.

Unitex USA is bringing a new manufacturing plant to Anderson County "near I-85". The company plans spend $4 million and add 40 new jobs over the next five years. Not sure if this is 'Project Forest' or not.

Edit: Just found out that I was correct in assuming this is Project Forest.

From the Greenville News:

Greenville-based Human Technologies Inc. has purchased the old AG Edwards building on Spring Street and plans to move its Greenville operations there by the middle of the year.

The company is investing nearly $1 million in the purchase and a renovation of the second floor of the building at 105 N. Spring St., said Herb Dew, president of HTI, a staffing agency.

He said the company needed additional space currently and for future growth.

“We are so split up,” he said, with two offices in Greenville.

The building, which has tenants on the first floor, has 30,000 square feet of space and “we will take the whole second floor,” he said. Currently, HTI corporate offices are in a 14,000-square-foot building on Coffee Street and it has about 4,600 square feet of other office space.

Plans are to gut the building’s second floor, creating a training center along with HTI’s corporate headquarters, he said. Dew expects the renovation to begin in April after the U.S. Attorney’s offices move. The construction will take between 60 to 90 days.

The building was constructed in 1968, he said, as a bank. At that time, the first floor was a garage. The current first floor was built in the 1980s.

HTI will continue to lease out the first floor of the Spring Street building and will lease out its current office building at 300 E. Coffee St.

In addition, HTI is planning to expand from its current Upstate base. The company will decide by June 30 on whether it will expand to Charleston, Chattanooga, Tenn., or Birmingham, Ala., he said.

The past year has been a busy one for HTI, he said. During the past year, HTI doubled its sales volume, making it the company’s biggest year ever with nearly $50 million in gross sales.

Currently, the staffing agency has 2,100 workers on its payroll who work in manufacturing facilities on a contract basis. A year ago, he had only 700 temporary workers as manufacturers either laid off workers or didn’t increase their hiring.

Dew said he expects many of those contract workers to become full-time permanent employees of the manufacturing facility where they are located.

The Edwards building sold pretty damn cheap. Less than $1mm for 30,000 sq. ft.

I wonder where the US Attorneys are moving, within DT I would assume.

I would hope the first floor would convert to restaurant-retail with the work on Brown Street now underway.
