Currently, Griffin employs between 50 and 80 people, depending on the season, in a 60,000-square-foot building just off Interstate 85 near Budweiser of Greenville in Piedmont.

By October, the company plans to move into the 330,000-square-foot former Estes textile mill about five miles away, where it plans to add 50 to 100 jobs over the next few years, said Tom Beebe, Griffin vice president.

The expansion is contingent on Greenville County Council approving an incentives package at its next meeting on Tuesday.

The Gville News is reporting that Confluence Watersports which manufacters kayaks and Canoes is moving from Easley to the old Hitachi building in Greenville. They plan to add 72 jobs over the next 5 years.

There are a LARGE number of long-vacant industrial buildings being sold in the last few months.

1) On Poinsett Highway on the East side betweeen Cherrydale and Furman by League manufacturing

2) One in Piedmont that just sold

3) The building that Amy's Kitchen bought that had been Sara Lee bakery

I think there was another one that is a former Delta Mills plant, not remembering the details at the moment...am I missing any others?

I would love to see the old Claussen Bakery and/or the Carolina First complex added to that list.

Wireless Communications, Inc. purchased 105 East North Street. The 15,000 square foot office building will add some 30 corporate associates to the thriving and vibrant Downtown Greenville community. Wireless Communications owns and operates 23 stores in the Upstate and Midlands of South Carolina and Northeast Georgia, including its flagship store at 103 North Main next to Piazza Bergamo.

The magnetic effect of The Boeing Co.’s new aircraft plant in North Charleston is being felt in the Upstate.

A Spanish company that makes carbon structures for the aerospace industry says the Boeing plant is a key reason it picked southern Greenville County as the location for a new factory that will employ at least 50 and possibly up to 100 over time.

Executives for the high-tech firm, called Carbures, said Tuesday they plan to open the plant for business next year at the South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center.

The company, based in Cadiz, near Gibraltar in southern Spain, also engineers, designs and manufactures its products for the automotive, defense, health-care and construction industries.

“We are confident and willing to create as much employment as possible,” said Angel Vallejo, a Carbures vice president. Vallejo and three other executives told GreenvilleOnline.com that Airbus, the France-based aircraft giant, is their biggest customer in Europe, and they hope to do business with Chicago-based Boeing as well.

The 787 Dreamliner that Boeing makes in North Charleston is one of the projects Carbures is focused on, the executives said. “It’s the next step for us as a company to reach Boeing and work for them and work with them,” Vallejo said.

They also cited Clemson University’s advanced materials research program and South Carolina’s focus on the aerospace industry as reasons for choosing SCTAC, a former Air Force base now operated as an industrial park by the city and county of Greenville. Carbures sees Clemson graduates as a source of employees with expertise in advanced materials, the executives said. They said the company looked at other U.S. sites as possible locations for the plant but declined to name them.

Vallejo and the other executives — Rafael Contreras, Ivan Contreras and Carlos Guillen — said Carbures already has some U.S. business that it’s not at Jody Bryson, SCTAC president, said he met with Carbures executives at the Paris Air Show in June as part of a South Carolina delegation that included Gov. Nikki Haley.

I think we were definitely on the short list by that time,” having worked with the company for about nine months, Bryson saidHe said SCTAC will spend $3.5 million to construct a 40,000-square-foot building on 10 acres that Carbures will lease for at least 15 yearsThe executives said Carbures began as a three-employee startup 11 years ago and now employs 95 people at a similar facility in Spain. The company spun out of university research, and its owners are mostly professors, the executives said.

Carbures, LLC, a high-tech firm based in Spain that makes carbon structures for the aerospace industry will open its first U.S. headquarters in Greenville,SC.

At least $6.5 million investment and 100 jobs for the area.

Hopefully many will practice in Greenville once they are finished with their training.

Kongsberg Automotive, a maker of automotive components announced today that it plans to expand its existing Pickens County operation with a $7.3 million investment and 300 new jobs. The expansion is scheduled to begin in early 2012 and take five years to complete. Location of manufacturing plant will be the old Confluence Watersports facility in Easley.

Make sense. We heard the news that the project for the old Sam's Club was "automotive related", which Bosch Rexroth is, and that it would employee several hundred, which this will. Hmmm.

I just think it's strange that we haven't heard any more about this re-use, yet the Murphy USA has already been demolished. Seems a bit too secretive at this stage in the game NOT to be an economic development announcement.

Either way, I HOPE they'll re-do their parking lot and plant lots of trees. A nice green strip along Laurens Rd would be lovely.

Following this speculation, it would be great to have the additional jobs in the City, AND right along the proposed BRT route. Can't be much more perfect!
