I'll just post this here. Clemson opened up their new MBA program center in downtown Greenville last Friday: http://www.gsabusine...or-mba-students A career fair was held to celebrate the opening. Companies that were on hand for it included Hubbell Lighting, Michelin North America Inc. and BMW Manufacturing Company. shades.gif

Awesome! Added population downtown and vacant office space absorbed. Hopefully the relocation to Greenville and its business community will also help the program grow, too.

I was just told by their requiter that I'd be a good candidate for their program. I live only a few blocks from there so I could walk/bike very easily. I'm very excited about their having moved to the falls. Thank you Clemson for being so forward thinking as to move this program downtown! I still can't believe I might one day hold an MBA from such a good school.

Congrats! I had forgotten about those who live downtown in addition to the business people...

OnPoint CFO & Controller Services has announced that they will be moving their corporate headquarters to the NEXT Center in downtown Greenville by the end of the month. Good to see start-up companies not only noticing this area and center but also becoming successful. shades.gif

Excellent news. NEXT seems to be having a good deal of success.

Not that I am in support of this, but apparently it involves a company by the name of CT&T: http://www.thestate.com/breaking/story/1161320.html Maybe you've heard of them. whistling.gif

CT&T plans to produce 22,000 of the cars to be used by traffic police, and already 4,000 have been ordered by the United States. The price is expected to range from US$11,300 to $16,500 depending on whether it runs on lead batteries or lithium ion batteries.

Looks like Kemet will be adding over 100 jobs (and they'll be local, not in Mexico). I find this article also interesting in that they'll be producing DC bus capacitors for electric drive vehicles. Is this spinoff from Proterra? :dontknow:

A Florida-based company by the name of Astra/CFX that will provide tire and wheel assembly for BMW’s next generation of the X3 sports activity vehicle is investing $9 million to launch its site here and will bring about 50 contract jobs, at first, with an eye to an additional 100 in the future according to this article from the Greenville News: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/20100311/BUSINESS/303110013/Tire-and-wheel-assembly-company-will-bring-jobs-to-Greer

Looks like AVX has declared increased dividends. This was the company moving the headquarters from Myrtle Beach to Greenville bringing a few hundred jobs. Obviously they've made the move? Has anyone heard much about them? :dontknow:

Great article in today's Greenville News regarding CU-ICAR.

More specifically, the article mentions how leaders at the University of South Carolina are looking to CU-ICAR as an example of what they hope InnoVista can be someday. As many here are probably aware, InnoVista has struggled to take off and was even criticized by Governor Sanford.

http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/20100513/BUSINESS/305130036/USC-leaders-point-to-ICAR-as-a-model-for-their-maligned-InnoVista-project

It was great to read that 675 people are currently on the CU-ICAR campus each day (employees, researchers, professors, and students). Plus, more are in store following recent job announcements. And I'm sure there are more announcements on the way shortly! :whistling:

It was great to reinforce that American Titanium and Sage are bringing an additional 80 employees and two new buildings. Furthermore, population on the campus is going to explode when Proterra opens their facility. Of course, these numbers are nothing truly new, but they're certainly GREAT to see again.

South Financial is being acquired by TD Bank. With no presence in the south, other than some Florida branches, for this Canadian bank brand, this could work out well for the area. Time will tell. :dontknow:

I just saw this on The Greenville News website. Interesting move for TD Bank, which is all over Toronto and the Northeast. It makes sense for them, though. Hopefully they will maintain a strong presence in Greenville.

I will be curious to see what they do about the Carolina First headquarters on I-85.
