Your deep cynicism is understandable given the history of this park.  I've worked across the street from it for about 30 years, so believe me when I say I hope they're able to prove you wrong.   

I will say, what they're doing is exactly what needs to happen with an urban park like this.   Use it.  Make it a benefit for downtown residents and workers.   Today was the first day of the programming schedule, with the Kids Art in the Park.   I swung by at the tail end of it and there were about 30-40 people there, with kids doing art projects and live music.     I spoke to one of the staffers on site who said there were twice that many a bit earlier.     She also said the staff would be present in the park daily from 7am to 8pm (really, wow!) and live music would happen several times a week.   The fountain is no more,  now landscaped with plants, the new sod and cafe tables look great and people were out there having lunch,  coffee or just taking it in.   I NEVER saw that before.    As more downtown businesses start having employees return to work, I predict the crowds will grow.  

But yes, the city and the  Capitol Corridor Foundation will have to keep it going.    If they stop, the park will no doubt revert to the sad state it was.    For now, I'd say come out and enjoy it and see what an urban park can be! 

Oh, and btw, Food Truck Thursday downtown on Deaderick St. has returned!    Can't tell you how much I've missed that for the last year.

As I said, I wish them the best. Time will tell. 

The only way to keep it this way is to keep events going all the time. BTW, do they have a dusk to dawn curfew in effect for the park? If so it may work, but if they do not get MPD to enforce that, then there will be issues.

Were there a lot of homeless outside of the library waiting to get in and if where were they waiting?

I was only there a short time, but didn't see any of the usual homeless folks hanging around.    I didn't go inside the library, though.   

I did, however, go in and check out Copper Branch, where the meet will be this Sat.    Looks awesome.    Can't wait to try it.

Unless a disaster happens in the park, probably so. You know, like the Homeless come in and all the sudden have a huge tent city and will not leave and Metro just says we are done.

I say we all make a field trip to REI and get some tents... rough them up a little so they don't look too nice... and go have a nice old fashioned camp out in that park!  Maybe we can light a few trash can fires and just to really drive the point home stage some mock drug-induced fights (and maybe have a couple real ones just to keep things interesting.)  What's a few misdemeanors if it means we get Paramount built, right?

One of you has got to pee on a tourist, though.  That may make it look more authentic.
