Agree. Kind of pathetic actually. I've noticed that this kind of nattering happens a lot when there are development news lulls. It's like the guys that check the forum 60 times a day get frustrated and resort to furiously caterwauling the tired glies baaahxes trope.

I feel the need to defend the weariness some have for glass boxes. (and most new high rise type buildings do seem to all glass) Architectural design goes thru trends. We seem to be in a glass box trend for building over 20 floors. We went thru a trend of more mixed use materials that produced Nashville City Center and Fifth Third buildings. I wager if we put photos (building only) of all buildings 25 floors and over in a hat and asked the average Nashvillian to  name them, it would not be easy. Buildings like Prime and Alcove show what can be done will glass boxes. Personally, I wish more were that "creative" over a Four Season slab of glass (which is not ugly, at all, but resembles, if you squint, - the 505 a lot, to me). 

I kind of look a the glass box trend a little like residential builders painting every last house/condo in a development - white.  Variety is not bad.

There is a more timeless element to glass and steel. I cringe when thinking that most (including me) thought the Sheraton was pretty cool when it was first built.

Architecture is like Art, its beauty lies in the beholder. For some “glass boxes “ are not their cup of tea, for others “Art Deco” or “ Modernist “ may not be their cup. I feel we should not bash each other’s tastes, it’s ok to disagree on the subject. IMO the Architecture of Haven and the Art of Stix are just horrible, and should be destroyed, but to some it’s great stuff. I just try and look at the glass as half full , and realize even The Haven is better than nothing at all. Nashville and all on this forum, should be happy we have so much development to talk about.

Agree with this except that no one on earth thinks Haven is great stuff. They are offering 3 months of free rent. I'd rather have nothing because it would allow for something else in that space

Haven being bad is more due to the developer than the architect. If the developer only has $5 and insists, he wants a steak, it will be a crappy steak. I have issued projects that are nowhere near what I wanted, but I have to make the client. who is paying me, happy.

I mostly blame the city for allowing it. There will always be cheap developers, you have to regulate them.

I’d be content for the city to regulate the upkeep of the projects that we fund, but are too often neglected once built! (Like nice streetscsaping that’s installed and then allowed to go to sh*t in the first season after it’s completed.)

For the love of god, guys, relax, it was an exaggeration. But sort the tallest buildings in Nashville list on Wikipedia by year — glass box has certainly been a recurring theme.

I agree, I can see them both from my living room and that parking garage is huge and very ugly.  The hotel itself isn't bad at all in my opinion, it's got that round thing at the top that looks a bit like the one in Vancouver which was a trend many years ago.

Marble Fox Brewing is open on 8th Ave S where Jackalope Brewing used to be.  I went last Tuesday.  The interior is nice, classy, much better than Jackalope.  My friends and I agreed that the beer was very good.  I highly recommend it.  On my next trip, I'll take some pics for UP.

I don't see the inference. Most people of any city can't name one single building yet alone multiple buildings in the city.

Bland maybe, but it should not be a city of architectural experimentation and oddities.  Unlike Barcelona, we have no Gaudi available to spread an architectural genuis across the city.  Albion is very, very nice and fabulously sited from the interstate split, but we are also cursed with mediocracy nexto it...outstanding ugliness in fact.  as an architect, I am nowhere near as impressed with Albion Midtown in comnparisn to Albion on Division.  i think that even Barcelona can be boring to me with its block afer block of the ame height building even if they ar individually beautiful.  The cathedrals there are icing on the cake.  Overall I fairly please with the core being built is of divese design.  Could be better, but reasonably satisfactory to me in genneral.

Developer Toll Brothers Apartment Living has finalized the deal on the land for $4 million. This project will site 1 block to the NW of the Neuhoff Plant project.
