505 CST - 545 feet - 45 Floors

Columns supporting the ceiling of the 45th level going up.  This level will be 15' 4" and will reach the 500' mark.  After that, level 45 mezzanine/mechanical and the curtain wall will reach the final height of 524'.  All true IF the stacking plan is accurate.

^^So...compared to this image, where will the final height be?  Is it above all of the core and the "core mold" that's shown...or is most of that mold above the finished height of the core?

I think there maybe one more addition to the core.  It's hard to tell with the form still in place. I think what is there corewise is the 45th level and the mechanical level.  If I'm reading it right, there is still another bump at the top to match the height of the glass curtain wall. I could be way off.  We'll find out soon enough.

I am really amazed how tall this looks from certain perspectives. With that being said, (I can't believe I'm about to say this) I think that Signature tower would have looked too tall. 505 is roughly half the height of Signature tower. Signature tower at 700' would have looked impressive in the skyline at that location. Is there anywhere else in the immediate area of 505 where a building the size of Signature tower could go?

That being the Hotel Tulane site. Demolished and a parking lot since around 1958.

And Batman is almost 100' taller. I really like how this pic makes 505 look so much taller than it really is. Does it look that way from most vantage points on the interstates when approaching downtown? I am bringing family into town for the 4th that have not been to Nashville since 1987. I want them to see the most amazing view. We are coming from Virginia Beach, so I was thinking of getting off of I-40 on to 840 and then back on to I-65 N and bring them that way.

^ That sounds great.  Your family will be amazed and have a great time.  Heck, I'm downtown every day and I'm amazed.  I think you've got the right idea.  I-65 from the south, imo, has the best and most impactful view (from an interstate anyway).  65 from the north is great too but you of course won't be coming from that direction.  Spend some time at Ft. Negley as well.

If only City Center 2 had been completed back in the late '80s/early '90s to fill in this gap (and it would've been 510').

If I were a passenger in that vehicle, I would give a huge H-E-L-L NAW to that idea. Why would you want to add an extra hour onto an already long trip for "best view"? 840 is a loooong way around. Just do 440 to 65 if that's the approach you want. You won't spoil the view, and you get the same reveal. Honestly, the way the road is graded and the tree canopy, you wouldn't see the skyline until the same point. It's minutes instead of an hour. 

And honestly, I like the approach from 40 west. Sure, with your first glimpse of the city at the 24 merge, the skyline may look a tad linear coming in that way, but as you continue along west on 40 after the 24 split, you swing around the gulch. You have the city on your right for best views from an auto. There, you get the full effect of crane counting, you get the sweeping view of the skyline and the massive width of the MCC. All of that is missed from the 65 approach whichever split you take (65N has a barrier wall view and the 65>40W underpass merge lanes are looking at dirt). Then you continue along through the "trench" of Demonbreun/Broadway/Church and get to see the buildings tower above you. It's actually probably the best approach for people who haven't been here in decades. The initial linear view probably gives them the thought process of; "Oh yeah. I remember this view. Same 'ol little town I remember. There is the batman...HOLY SMOKES!!!!!!!....where did all of that come from!?!?!"

Ive never really thought about it before, but that's one of my favorite approaches. It gives you the full effect. The only one that beats it in the split-second "POW!" factor is from 65s. You come over the hill at the 24 merge, having no idea what is ahead, and BAM the city is below you in full spread! You feel like a god descending down upon the chosen land. But then you see the Titans parking lot, our glamorous Stadium Inn and the metal scrap yards and you're thinking "meh". 

 

So yes, stay on 40W.
