I saw a permit for water/sewer permitting a while back. That is the start of very preliminary work. Have not see anything since then. I dont look for the other buildings to start until the first is finished or close to it.

Apparently b/c it's going to be all concrete posts & floors instead of steel girders for the vertical portions. Garage pedestals take longer for this reason.

That's what I was thinking, too. I was following One Vanderbilt's progress over at Skyscraperpage, and it was impressive at the pace everything was built.

Almost all of the recent construction in Nashville has been reinforced concrete slabs and columns (outside of the 5th and broadway office tower and the amazon tower above their parking).You also have to remember the 5th and broadway tower started earlier than this one.

Just a technical terminology learned in school: vertical supports are designated as columns, horizontal supports that connect columns are designated as girders, and the smaller horizontal supports between girders are called beams. 

Both steel and reinforced concrete have their advantages/disadvantages. Steel can be effective because when you design the building before construction, you can order the steel and use the permit waiting time as the same time the steel is rolled. By the time metro issues permits, the timing can work out so that there is not wasted time. Once the steel arrives, placement is fairly simple and quick. The workers then lay corrugated metal on top of the beams and girders and pour the concrete. Steel, though, requires a lot of codes to check welds. Reinforced concrete is more labor intensive because the workers must build those wooden forms for each floor and then place the steel rebar, but the advantage is their is no waiting for steel from the manufacturing plant especially if there are delays from the plant. It is also beneficial that you can have many workers working at the same time, but it is tougher moving and placing large pieces of steel with only one crane.

thanks to another poster I found I did take a photo of this today.  Here you go.    Yes the garage is behind the glass which is great.   Here is a link to their website I just needed to reference for how much sq feet the office portion is  (330,000 sq ft)  https://www.gulchunion.com/

I sincerely hope they are planning on covering the garage portion instead of just painting it as they have done. Would be a real shame with a project this visible.

I've been thinking the same thing for awhile now. It feels like half this building is just parking (it is a little less than half, but still!!). At least it will be screened away. I am wondering if this parking will serve a large portion of the other buildings in this overall development so those have less parking. One can hope i guess

Looking at the overall renderings there does seem to be a connected base, so that may be why there is such a large pedestal on this one. I guess we’ll see when they start to screen in the garage on the east side of the tower.
