Repurposed/revitalized historical buildings in Nashville

2717 Lebanon Pike covers 5,203 sq. ft. over its single floor with a bow-truss ceiling and was built in 1947.  It is now reimagined as the new Edley's BBQ  for Donelson.

Great news: The Ernest Tubb Record Shop at 417 Broadway will remain, and the new owners (led by Brad Bars) will invest $18.75 million to restore the original 1850-era facade, create a honky tonk on 2nd floor, a private 3rd floor, and add a new roof top bar. The iconic record store has been located at this spot since 1951.

2200 8th Ave. South covers 10,000 sq. ft. over its single floor and was originally built as a furniture warehouse in 1984.  It is just completing its conversion into to the new HQ for Medici XD, a formerly LA-based production company.

Vanderbilt University's Kirkland Hall (circa 1875) is getting a renovation and exterior upkeep.  Scaffolding is now down, and looking good.

1234 6th Ave. North covers 3,300 sq. ft. on its single floor and was built in 1945.  It is now home to the brand-new Taco Mamacita, which opened on Wednesday.

1281 3rd Ave. South covers 2,694 sq. ft. over its 2 floors and was built in 1940.  It is now home to LVJWNG showroom,  and the offices for Third & Prime.

I’m not sure of the provenance of these two bungalows on 6th Ave N just south of Taylor St, but they have to be pre WW2. A slew of restaurants and bars have come and gone in this stretch; however the old Jamaican bbq place at 1314 6th Ave N is now a new bar called Frankie J’s. Across the street, a new cafe/bakery bookshop concept called The Library Cafe should be opening later this month. Neighbors are excited to welcome a bakery to Germantown.

Does Nashville have any daycares on the ground floor of a mixed-use apartment building?

The Antiques Mall Building at 606 8th Ave. South covers 26,278 sq. ft. over its 2 floors and was built in 1939.  It is part of the Paseo South Gulch development, and is now fully leased.  Two Hands Coffee is now open.

4916 Charlotte Ave. covers 3,600 sq. ft. over its single floor and was built in 1901.  It is now home to Streetcar Taps & Garden.

2701 B 12th Avenue South covers 1,924 sq. ft. over its single floor and was built in 1969.  It is now Hearts Cafe.

The 2nd & 3rd floors of The Cohen Building at 421 Church St. (circa 1890) will be converted into boutique hotel space pending approval of the departments Downtown Code Design Review Committee.

The Dickson Post Office Building (circa 1937) has sat empty for decades, but is now going to be reinvigorated into some as-of-yet-announced commercial purposes by Charlie Nelson of Dickson.

The architecture of the structure, sometimes referred to as ‘starved classicism,’ stands out even after decades of neglect. Inside is a highly-respected mural that can't be moved.  

Those reasons are why the former Dickson post office was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. 

The building’s historical significance is also why Charlie Nelson bought the structure in 2020 – and recently received nearly $300,000 in state grant funds to revive the space.

Big doings at Browns.   The new patio/deck is open and ads much needed seating capacity.   They're about to start on an addition on the West side that will house a new kitchen.

104 Rep. John Lewis Way South (5th Ave. South) covers 5,034 sq.,ft. over its 2 floors and was built in 1820.  It is considered the oldest building in downtown Nashville.  It's newest tenant is Teddy's Tavern, which will include a rooftop bar.

It honors the original design of the building, uncovering exposed beams, brick, floors, and fireplaces. Like its honky tonkin’ neighbors, you can expect different offerings on each level:  The first floor taps into the historical elements of the building, featuring a small, more traditional country stage, a main bar, and food service. The second floor has a “quieter, intimate spot” with a small stage fit for a single musician. The rooftop is a place to grab seated cocktails and drinks with views of Broadway.

10 Lindsley Ave. covers 28,000 sq. ft. over its 2 floors and was built in the early 80s as a printing house.  It has now opened as Audi of Downtown Nashville.
