I agree with Smeags.  I mean, look at the Pinnacle building.  That's a relatively square building with a shaped glass crown that lights up.  But at least it's something.  (Wish they would have put colorful LEDs in the crown, however.  I was told by the prop manager that it would cost too much to change... although they went pink once with temp lights).  ANYWAYS, even though we would LOVE a fancy crown like what Tony G had planned or the Bank of America building in Atlanta... put a little creativity in your design and give the city something to be proud of.  When people come to Nashville and take a pic with a building in the background, which building is it?   The 505?  Bridgestone?  It's the Batman building because of the unique shape.   I think Tony G really missed the boat on the 505.  Such a huge opportunity with a lazy design.  If I was any architecture firm, I would do *something* to at least leave a little mark on the cityscape.

As a designer in the city I agree that it is our responsibility to upsell a design and try to convince a client to go a certain direction. From my experience though, the cash always wins. Anytime you run into a value engineering situation (lets face it, we always do), there are always a few items to that will be first on the chopping block. First and foremost, any designed space the is unusable or does not serve the building occupants or use (ala crown) gets chopped. The next thing is the interior finishes and the third is the quality of exterior envelope materials. Those three categories can dramatically reduce cost quickly, and these clients ALWAYS want to move quickly.

Big name or big city architects I feel are typically given a little bit more wiggle room with these items for some reason. Prior to moving south, Boston, was developing this trend of placing a "slant" on top of all of their skyscrapers. It began to create a uniform language for the city, while also keeping the building cost "relatively low".

I heard it on the streets that the AEG Boutique Hotel will reveal it's brand in the next couple of weeks.

My source.....maybe.

Ugly... but TALL!

You think so? I rather like it. It may not age well, but I don't think she's ugly.

@CityHeart, where does it lead?  In other words, why would I choose to take this path?  This rendering makes it look like it goes underground.

Yeah, I just keep looking at the rendering and thinking it looks so blunt and utilitarian.  It's not all bad I was just hoping for a little more of a high line feel I guess.  I'm sure cost is a factor.

@CityHeart, if it would get me to a place I wanted to go, it would be a very pleasant walk.  However, it seems to be a walk to nowhere.  If it took me to shops, restaurants, entertainment, and I could get to other cool places from there, I would be likely to take the walk.  This looks like a REALLY long ramp compared to the stairs at Demonbreun and 11th Ave S.

They have hotels in Maryland Mississippi, Michigan and Nevada, but they all seem to be casino type hotels except MGM Grand in Detroit and National Harbor in Baltimore.
