  1. Though we already know that Yard House is coming to Magnolia Park, it is still nice to see that it is now officially listed on the Yard House web site as "Coming Soon," with a projected opening of Fall 2014.
  2. Cabela's signage has been mounted. Looks good. Opening still scheduled for Spring. Has anyone heard rumors of a date? Also, Cabela's announced a second South Carolina store just this morning, slated to open in Fort Mill in Spring of 2015.
  3. According to GCGIS records, the site was transferred from "Gville Memorial Auditorium" to "Greenville Gateway Developers" on 17 January 2008 for $1.8 million. Then, on the same date, it was transferred again - to the same party - for just $1. (I have no idea what that means.) So, take your pick. Current assessed value appears to be $1.4 million. 2012 taxes, paid on 10 September 2013, were $33,126.64. There are a number of businesses - some construction- or real estate-related and some not - registered at the same address (in a very upscale residential neighborhood) as Greenville Gateway Developers. Principals are said to be Rick Thoennes and his business partner Tim Roberson. Before the sale closed in January 2008, "Charleston Regional Business Journal" reported that the partners were planning a high-rise mix that would "include a hotel, rooftop restaurant, condominiums and rental apartments." That was then; this is now.
  4. The owner, Greenville Gateway Developers, LLC, was delinquent on taxes as of the Delinquent Tax Sale notice published in Greenville Journal of Sept. 6, 2013. Taxes were paid four days later, but I'm not getting any warm fuzzies for a high-quality project. Another prime site heading for a mediocre end.
  5. I found it easily using Google, but just so that people here won't pounce on me for not being helpful, I will share my super-secret search terms: Greenville Westside Comprehensive Plan. Teach someone to fish search...
  6. I believe that was mentioned just above. (I actually beat you on announcing one, although I'm sure you knew it well before I did.)
  7. Browsing the Magnolia Park web site, I ran across this, which is dated today, Nov. 8. I don't recall anyone previously mentioning Nordstrom Rack as having been signed, although many have been wishing for one... "Joining open retailers and restaurants Costco, Regal Cinemas, Toys R Us/Babies R US, Rooms to Go, Cheddars, Firebirds and Jared’s will be Cabela’s, Nordstrom Rack, Golfsmith, Yard House, Tucanos Brazilian Grill, and Destination XL." http://www.magnoliapark.com/menin-announces-new-additions-magnolia-park/#&panel1-1
  8. Yes, "hopefully." However, one should not be misled by the Beef Jerkey Outlet name. The stores carry, in addition to beef jerkey, elk, vennison, buffalo, turkey, salmon and other types of jerkey, as well as sauces, rubs, marinades etc., similar to House of Jerky. That looks competitive to me. In addition, Beef Jerkey Outlet may benefit by its location in Magnolia Park not far from the new Cabela's store.
  9. The new House of Jerky store downtown will soon have competition from Beef Jerky Outlet in Magnolia Park. http://www.thebeefjerkyoutlet.com/beef-jerky-outlet-locations Must be the latest craze.
  10. From Beef Jerky Outlet Web site @ http://www.thebeefjerkyoutlet.com/beef-jerky-outlet-locations: Beef Jerky Outlet - Greenville Coming Nov 2013 Greenville has gone so long without a jerky specialty store, and now we'll have two!
  11. WSPA reports that the board is giving the I-85/I-385 project a green light. http://www.wspa.com/story/23783653/state-board-will-give-i-85i-385-interchange-project-the-green-light
  12. The State had this interesting analysis of the situation yesterday, before the vote took place: http://www.thestate.com/2013/10/23/3055806/tempest-brews-over-how-sc-should.html
  13. I had no trouble finding it, as I pass by that corner almost every day, but I fear others may have difficulty, given the inaccuracy of the information on the Web, and that might impact the store's profitability and perhaps survivability.
  14. The House of Jerky web site shows a street address that lacks certain useful information: "36 Main Street, Greenville, SC 29611." Below that is listed an even more useless address: "36 East Main Street, Greenville, SC 29611." Note that, in both cases, the ZIP code is incorrect.Really?
  15. I was gladdened to see the billboard come down in the vacant lot on the SW corner of North Academy and Buncombe streets, across form BB&T, greatly improving the view looking south on Academy St. This morning, however, I noticed that a new one was being erected. I hope it isn't one of those electronic billboards, but I fear the worst.
  16. Sorry. Apparently I had been given incorrect information, to the effect that the stock had been moved out to other stores for liquidation, and I had not seen for myself.
  17. They're already gone. They closed about a month ago.due to the bankruptcy filing of Furniture Brands International. The company thought it might be able to emerge from bankruptcy more quickly if it eliminated under-performing stores.
  18. COLUMBIA, S.C. - The South Carolina Transportation Infrastructure Bank Board delayed an expected vote Tuesday on several major road projects. Two of the top three of those improvements are in the Upstate. The top priority on the SCDOT’s list of projects is widening and improving the I-85 interchange with I-385 in Greenville. Full story: http://www.wspa.com/story/23641096/approval-delayed-for-major-upstate-road-improvements
  19. How about this: http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php/topic/52543-one-greenville/
  20. It was my understanding that Greenville Transit failed to renew the Greyhound lease because they wanted to take over the office space that Greyhound had been using, thus giving Greyhound no option but to move elsewhere. There have been homeless in that area for several years. I know that some have been camping out in the thicket in the corner of the Merovan property adjacent to the off ramp from I-385 northbound, and it wouldn't surprise me to learn that others have been residing in other woodsy areas or under the bridge.
  21. Greyhound's new neighbors aren't happy about about living nearby. “People are getting stopped when they pass the bus station. They've been asked for phones. They've been asked for money." http://www.wyff4.com/news/local-news/greenville-news/neighborhood-fights-to-move-greyhound-terminal-out/-/9654794/22010922/-/1juvuhz/-/index.html
  22. You mean I'll have to pay $10 for parking just to get a flu shot?
  23. Postal addresses are arbitrary and generally less relevant than physical addresses. My home has a Simpsonville mailing address, but when people ask me where I live, I tell them I live on the east side, as that is more informative.
