  1. I like seeing two cranes framed in the same shot. Nice work.
  2. Also see this thread for details of Greenville Water campus: http://www.urbanplanet.org/forums/index.php/topic/116438-greenville-water-system-campus/
  3. Expanded campus of Greenville Water. http://www.greenvillesc.gov/PlanningZoning/PlanningApplications/Applications/2014/APRIL/PlanningCommission/04-10-2014/Z-02-2014-407WestBroadStreet.pdf
  4. Beija-Flor custom denim jeans have opened their downtown retail location on S. Main Street next to Chicora Alley.
  5. This is the former Blue Jay gas station. Not "about to be redeveloped." A new building has been under construction there for quite some time.
  6. My first thought was that the old Hampton Inn along Restaurant Row would, perforce, be rebranded, but I see now that it already has been. Guess I don't get down that way very often.

    Proterra

Proterra is on its third CEO in a span of about a year. The new CEO, Ryan Popple, quietly replaced Garrett Mikita in May, a move that wasn't even announced until last month. Mikita replaced the previous CEO, David Bennett, in May of last year. Popple's forte is in finance, specifically in raising capital. He came to Proterra from Tesla where, as senior director of finance, he oversaw government and private-equity financing.
  8. Should we not start a "Stone Avenue" or "North Main" thread in anticipation of future development in this area? (I really don't consider this part of downtown.)
  9. That garage seems to come and go with the tide. I have hopes, but I won't believe it until I see it.
  10. Seems to have the similar vibe to the project at Church and University Ridge but with much less emphasis on mixed use. I think this project could be improved with a little more first-level retail space. I have hopes that Phil Hughes will rectify that.
  11. Does anyone know whatever happened with Crescent Place? http://www.bbm-arch.com/planning/crescent-place/ Would be really sweet to see this come to life again.
  12. http://www.wyff4.com/news/new-restaurant-promises-fine-dining-for-10-in-10-minutes/25252554
  13. About that "sun shade device"... I was pleased to see that it is illuminated by LED lights to save energy, but at mid-day this past Saturday they were all shining brightly in broad daylight. Seems to defeat the purpose...
  14. Thank you for explaining the situation. While it will be unfortunate to have a zoo with no elephants, it does help to understand the constraints imposed by limited space and stringent regulations.
  15. Ladybird, one of two elderly African elephants at the Greenville Zoo, has died. According to news reports, zoo officials have announced that they will transfer the remaining elephant to another facility and eliminate the elephant exhibit altogether. Current zoo standards and regulations disallow having only one elephant, and Greenville Zoo officials apparently have no interest in acquiring a second animal to replace Ladybird.
  16. I did a quick side-by-side comparison between the current application and the one that was approved at the 11/1/12 DRB meeting (after changes recommended at the 10/04/12. The only change I can detect is that the original application was for 100 residential units while the current application is for 105 residential units. Other than that, the two applications appear to be the same, with identical plan and elevation views.
  17. Has anyone else noticed the image on the Magnolia Park web site with John, George, Paul and Ringo in the crosswalk? http://www.magnoliapark.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/image8.jpg
  18. I have no opinion as to the appropriateness of Duke Center in Clemson, but I do want to point out that, at just 65 feet tall, this project does not qualify as a "high rise" (as suggested by the WYFF news story) under generally accepted standards. Most building engineers, inspectors, architects and similar professions, including the the National Fire Protection Association, define a high rise as a building that is at least 75 feet tall (23 meters). At best, the seven-story plan is borderline.
  19. Looks to me as though access to the pedestrian overpass to the arena will be all but exclusive to residents of the project. Am I wrong?
  20. A Greenville News article last April reported that there were indeed some problems. "The tile roof leaked so much that rainwater found its way to the first floor. It was impossible to heat and cool. And government had outgrown it." Nevertheless, a plan was developed to save the building and link it to the new city hall via a patio, but it was never adopted and the city instead built the garage and "International Plaza" - both of which, like the old city hall, are now but memories. http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/20130428/DOWNTOWN/304280002/Though-treasures-been-lost-downtown-finds-value-history
  21. "...the city is setting up a viewing area on Dunbar Street by Greenville High School." [source: http://www.wspa.com/story/24399607/greenville-officials-spread-word-on-scott-towers-implosion-safety-plan]
  22. All local news media will be there, at a minimum, though I'm pretty sure there will be a lot more than those cameras capturing the event, with results appearing on YouTube just a few moments later.
  23. Implosion scheduled for 9:30 in the morning on Sunday, January 19. There's a neighborhood information meeting scheduled at 6:00 p.m. this Wednesday (January 8) at the Garden Apartments to go over the safety plan, street closings etc. Detailed schedule at http://www.wspa.com/story/24358316/crews-prepare-to-implode-scott-towers-in-greenville
