  1. Actually, it isn't Greenville, either. That location falls in the area between the eastern Greenville city limits (as depicted on the Greenville County WebMap) and the western boundary of the area generally but perhaps unofficially understood to be "Taylors" (as depicted on Google Maps), though somewhat closer to Greenville.
  2. There's a story on WSPA's web site. "BMW plans to move their export location from the current site in Duncan to the new inland port in Greer." http://www.wspa.com/story/23336188/bmw-moving-export-location-to-greer-inland-port
  3. Babaziki, LLC, is a new Greenville-based company that first filed with the State of SC in March of this year and filed an application to register the trademark/servicemark in early April. The business is described as "Restaurant Services." I am always in favor of locally owned businesses. Last Saturday, someone from the Greenville area posted a message on the Dave & Buster's Facebook page asking when the Greenville SC location would be opening. The reply from Dave & Busters was posted yesterday morning: "We cannot make any official announcements at this time. We are always looking for great new locations! Stay tuned to our social networks for when we do! Thanks!"
  4. Or there could be an agreement that the developer would be responsible for the south side of the street as long as the city makes improvements and upgrades to the north side. The city has been very effective in working with developers, whether as a public-private financial partnership or simply as an above-board quid-pro-quo arrangement (not the underhanded kind).
  5. The difference in size was acknowledged. However, most of us here are thinking regionally.
  6. While I was in Fort Worth for a conference recently, I thoroughly enjoyed having public transit available to travel between various parts of the city. "Molly the Trolley" is free within the downtown area for traveling between and among hotels and restaurants and the convention center, while paid service was available for travel to the stockyards district on the north side and to the arts district on the west side. Had I wanted to, I could have used inter-modal transit to travel from and to DFW airport. Yes, the DFW area is the very epitome of sprawl, but there are still lessons to be learned from visiting there. (Also of interest is that the city is trying to make plans to revitalize the tourist areas in the stockyards district that flank a small river, for which they might want to take some cues from Greenville's success at RiverPlace and Falls Park.)
  7. Copied from another topic: "Construction contract for the $240 million I-85/I-385 interchange project to be awarded in February 2014: http://www.gsabusine...e-project?rss=0"
  8. "On the other side of Greenville, Brandon Mill is waiting for its chance at a new life. "A mixed-use development with 173 apartments was recently proposed for the mill of Shoeless Joe Jackson fame, along with restaurants, a grocery store and other commodities that the Westside is missing." http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/20130623/NEWS07/306230001/Historic-Conestee-Brandon-mills-line-redevelopment
  9. Unfortunately, this represents a trade-off between an existing bike rack (in place less than a year) and public art. I wish these two installations could coexist.
  10. Having been through that crossing in all four directions, I'm sure that's true. As a cyclist and often pedestrian, I always stop and wait patiently when I'm driving, while those behind me fume and fuss. Some resolution is necessary for that intersection, although I have a hard time envisioning the proposed underpass. The engineers will have to excavate almost down to normal-stage river level, and I'll still duck my head instinctively each time I ride through. There but for helmets...
  11. I more than suspect such, hence my earlier observation..
  12. Very interesting indeed, though there would be the problem of what to do about the grade-level crossings at Haywood Rd. and Verdae Blvd. Those roads just carry a lot of traffic, and building overpasses would be very costly. I believe those were two of the impediments to building the previously proposed rapid-bus plan.
  13. I'm thrilled that BPF is growing quickly enough to justify moving into a larger space, but I am concerned that the traffic volume and the visibility on Woods Lake Rd. are nowhere near those found on Woodruff Rd. Hope this move doesn't turn out to be a mistake for BPF in the long run.
  14. All together, Anthropologie, Brooks Brothers and Tupelo Honey, when the latter two are completed and opened, will take up more than three-quarters of the usable space on the ground level. That certainly qualifies as "most." When the remaining corner is leased, then the total will comprise "all."
  15. Yes to both. River Falls is an unincorporated area of Greenville County located just north of the intersection of River Falls Road, Jones Gap Road and Gap Creek Road, in the general vicinity of Friddle Lake. Statistically it is categorized as a "populated place," which is basically a "settlement." River Falls appears on the Cleveland U.S. Geological Survey Map at approximately latitude 35.124 and longitude -82.542. http://www.topoquest.com/place-detail.php?id=1250392
  16. It's a shame that the Greenville Area Development Council, which itself is headquartered on Main Street downtown, hasn't added destination retail as a "Target Industry" on its web site www.greenvilleeconomicdevelopment.com
  17. Someone just confirmed to me that the parcel next to Twin Peaks is going to be Chuy's Tex-Mex restaurant.
  18. G-man, I'm trying to connect the dots between your two most recent posts here. Is PSA going to replace GattiTown or is it going to be new construction next to Twin Peaks or...
  19. I ran across this today but I have not seen this posted anywhere in this forum. Land acquisition apparently has been completed. "Following years of uncertainty and delays in finding a location, the General Services Administration purchased three separate parcels, totaling 2.4 acres, for approximately $4.078 million, spokeswoman Tina Jaegerman said." https://www.gsabusiness.com/news/46593-u-s-government-buys-land-for-courthouse-in-downtown-greenville?rss=0
  20. However, adjacent and nearby properties will increase in desirability by virtue of being close to the park, thus increasing the possibility that they will be bought out by developers wanting to build more expensive homes, driving out lower-income residents. Not quite the same process as urban renewal but with similar results.
  21. Thanks for setting me straight.
  22. Has Furman reneged on its agreement with TR to petition for annexation?
  23. Right. They lost their initial buzz due to that delay, so they have to start cranking it up again. All in all I'm glad to see that they're on their game as it might bode well for their future success.
  24. "Breaks ground"? The site was graded months ago and hasn't changed much since then other than remediation of some residual contamination. I drive by it almost every day. This same news story was picked up by GSA Business and QRS Magazine, among other outlets. Apparently the company is trying to generate some buzz for the delayed project by re-releasing old news to media. However, you yourself reported in this forum on Jan. 16 that bids would go out on January 22. Assuming that was true, I would expect to see real activity soon - just not within 9 days.
  25. Channel 7 (WSPA) has a different take, reporting that Duncan Chapel FD wanted to raise their fee, which apparently prompted the university to look elsewhere. According to the station, "The city only wanted the deal if the school would agree to annexation." http://www2.wspa.com/news/2012/dec/20/3/furman-university-takes-first-step-toward-traveler-ar-5211284/
