  1. This was also mentioned briefly in a story on NPR's "Marketplace" program on Thursday. https://www.marketplace.org/2017/11/09/business/gourmet-food-halls-transcend-trend
  2. The retailer also announced last week that it would close 63 more stores after the holidays. http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-biz-sears-pension-deal-store-sales-1109-story.html
  3. Thrillist.com, a web site that covers food, drink, travel and entertainment, says that the Village of West Greenville is set to become Greenville’s next big destination - one of 12 neighborhoods across the U.S. that the site says are on the verge of taking off and becoming "in" spots. http://www.wyff4.com/article/thrillist-greenville-has-one-of-12-us-neighborhoods-that-will-get-crazy-popular/13092646
  4. Brick paving may seem "rich" nowadays, but 100 or so years ago it was quite a common feature. I grew up on a brick-paved street in a midwestern mill town.
  5. They'll have to redo the logo to remove the "Tailored in Taylors" banner or replace it with something else.
  6. All the vehicles along McBee as shown in the illustrations are backed in. Seems very deliberate.
  7. Greenville's UP on the Roof, atop the Embassy Suites at RiverPlace, is included in yesterday's CNN.com article on "7 rooftop bars for viewing total solar eclipse." http://www.cnn.com/travel/article/us-rooftop-bars-solar-eclipse/index.html
  8. But can they do something about those pipes?
  9. Excellent re-use of this sturdy facility!
  10. As I said, I think that lot is being used as a convenient storage and staging area. Nothing to see here... move along.
  11. Never mind the bollards; full speed ahead!
  12. I'll believe it when I see something more definitive. This could simply be temporary staging for some other project. Not challenging you, gman; just skeptical, that's all.
  13. Augusta Road Chick-fil-A plans withdrawn amid recommendation to deny: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/2016/10/27/augusta-road-chick-fil--plans-withdrawn-amid-recommendation-deny/92851394/
  14. I do not, nor do I know whether this is simply preliminary or if there are definite plans. The property has been signed as "available" for over a year now.
  15. It has been long planned, and even reported on various Greenville-related sites, to increase the density and usage of the property. Much of the current land area is taken up by the parking lot, which has a far greater capacity than needed. Instead of a single structure, this will become an office development with multiple buildings. The existing multitenant building, of which Agfa HealthCare is the primary tenant, will remain.
  16. The property at 534 Woods Lake Rd, Greenville, has been under major renovation recently. Owned by Manly Square Investors LLC, the property formerly held Bavarian Pretzel Factory and, before that, Italian Market Grill. Work is being done by Caldwell Constructors, Inc., with a building permit value of $1.15 million. The purpose of the activity has been hush-hush, but I've heard a rumor of a grocery store of some sort, and the new entrance now under construction seems to support that premise. Does anyone else know anything?
  17. You'd think the downtown demand for stationery would be strong, but that was well in the past. Today's trendy urban residents thrive in a digital world. Meanwhile, downtown businesses sit back and enjoy next-day delivery from Office Depot or Greenville Office Supply. When I had an office downtown, the only time I went to the McBee Station Staples was when I needed something sooner than overnight, which was seldom. When I did go there, I rarely saw any other patrons. You could hold a protest rally in the parking lot and no one would notice. Conventional wisdom may be conventional, but it is almost never wise. I will say this: the regular prices at Staples seem to be better than discounted prices at Office Depot/Office Max, but that, sadly, may be too little and too late for the Big Red of stationers.
  18. I have no doubt that this will be one of the most desirable communities in the region.
  19. W.N. Watson Tire and Auto on West Broad is undergoing renovation and expansion. The business has temporarily relocated during construction to 311 East Washington St., corner of Church Street, which was formerly a second location.
  20. This will be a second Greenville location, in addition to the one downtown?
  21. Maybe one but not the other. Congaree Road still comes up as Church Street for me.
  22. Just the portion that Agfa HealthCare is using. My understanding is that the property management company moved into other parts of the building after renovations, with still other parts available for office leasing. I don't know whether any specific plans have been made; perhaps it is a build-to-suit-tenant situation. I think there is a potential for that property to turn into a nicely expanded business complex that would benefit the general vicinity as well as the investors..
