Drinking Beer in Charlotte

First, the Bold Missy owner posted on twitters that her dream comes true this Saturday at 5pm, so in other words, I have no idea what their hours are for Saturday....attend at your own risk.

Second, my updated map with the Catawba opening.....slightly different color markers for the non-Charlotte Charlotte breweries: https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zvfji2eVQoVE.kz5BFo-0quQ8

Finally, near the end of last year, I wondered if I'd had 100 different CharMeck beers.....so I decided to keep track this year.  With a good day at NoDa yesterday and a Pink Robot to end the weekend, I am at exactly 100 *different* CharMeck beers for 2017 (if we're counting Catawba as "CharMeck" now).  Breakdowns below.

40    Tap
31    Can
16    Flight
8    Bottle
4    Bomber
1    Growler

19    NoDa
14    Birdsong
13    Legion
8    Triple C
7    Blue Blaze
6    Sugar Creek
6    Sycamore
6    Unknown
4    OMB
4    Wooden Robot
3    Ass Clown
3    Free Range
2    Lenny Boy
2    D9
2    Thirsty Nomad
1    Catawba

We went to Sweet Union yesterday (just across the line into Union County on 74).  Place is okay.....

Hat tip to grodney who drives out to places like Indian Trail (may as well be Shelby) to drink mediocre beer so we don't have to. A true public servant!

Did I mention my app* that does real-time Google Maps calls to calculate distance to all Charlotte breweries from any given address?!  Hahaha.  Unfortunately, Sweet Union is closer to me than ANY CharMeck brewery.  But I appreciate the hat tip!

CharMeck from my house right now:
21 mins    The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
21 mins    Three Spirits Brewing
22 mins    Sugar Creek Brewing
22 mins    Thirsty Nomad Brewing
23 mins    Triple C Brewing
23 mins    Lenny Boy Brewing Co.
23 mins    Barking Duck Brewing
24 mins    Unknown Brewing Company
24 mins    Sycamore Brewing
26 mins    Wooden Robot Brewing
27 mins    Birdsong Brewing Company
27 mins    Blue Blaze Brewing
29 mins    Free Range Brewing
30 mins    NoDa Brewing Company
30 mins    Heist Brewery
32 mins    Salud Bottle Shop
32 mins    Legion Brewing
41 mins    Primal Brewery
43 mins    District 9 Brewing Company
43 mins    Bayne Brewing
44 mins    Ass Clown Brewing Company

NonMeck from my house right now:
19 mins    Dreamchasers Brewery
20 mins    Sweet Union Brewing
26 mins    Full Spectrum Brewing

*okay, so it's a spreadsheet, not an app

UP Scoop: Eleven Lakes Brewing in Cornelius (just down the road from Ass Clown) is now open.  Their "Grand Opening" is Jun 3 at 1pm, but for now they are open to the public Thu 4-10, Fri 4-10, Sat 12-10, as confirmed on the social media machine.

I didn't know about this one at the end of last year, so it didn't make our "brewery prediction" pool.

Updated map: https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zvfji2eVQoVE.kz5BFo-0quQ8

Bold Missy still looking good for this Saturday....but it ain't open 'til it's open.

On a whim I decided to search for info on Southern Tier/Victory (I have been impatient for a while). I found some posters of unknown reliability over at Beeradvocate who say that the production facility and brewpub will be separate and the brewpub will be at Bowers Fibers. Other than the separation of production and brewing I don't think this is news here but I needed to hear something. They had no idea about the production facility location but I would guess the airport area if something with sufficient ceiling height exists.

If these guys are right then LoSo (sorry) continues to thrive.

They are also hiring for a Restrauant Operations Specialist in Charlotte. https://www.ziprecruiter.com/jobs/artisanal-brewing-ventures-43fa1bc0/restaurant-operations-specialist-47f2405d?same_org_id=1&source=ziprecruiter_companyjobs_list_us   Sounds like Artisanal Brewing plans to manage its network of retail operations from Charlotte.

Artisanal Brewing Ventures is located in Charlotte, NC and is the parent company of Southern Tier Brewing Company and Victory Brewing Company.

Did a new Corp HQ sneak in under the radar?

Definitely not under the radar, the corp hq has been reported fairly widely.
Personally I think the production facility is 701 Griffith.
As far as bowers fiber goes, word on the street is their restaurant will be BBQ focused, leaning toward Texas style brisket.
Noble smoke was supposed to go at bowers, but was told a BBQ brewpub would be taking all 28k at bowers.

Thanks, too much beer news for me to keep track of from afar.

Are they taking the whole building at Griffith? Looks huge. It would actually be a decent place for a tasting room -- not far from Tyvola station and Three Spirits would definitely benefit. (and get drunk at the tap room while the wife goes to Costco! Gezzus that sentence makes me feel old)

So is this the Artisinal joint or has the situation changed since the beer advocate guys posted?

Yea, it'd still be the ABV location, if all is true, all 28k sq feet.

gezzus, that finally sunk in. Half the size of the Southend Publix -- plus outdoor space I assume. HTF can anyone run a restaurant and brewpub that big without it sucking?

Southern Tier opened a brewpub in Pittsburgh in North Shore, it has a 10k sq foot beer garden. No clue how big the actual facility is however. Food and experience is supposed to be pretty stellar.

Sycamore on the Book of Face: "See you at 'Cantopia' the launch event for our new cans (this Summer)!".  This is the first I've heard of "new cans" for them....other than maybe a mention that they'd be doing canning out of their new production facility at some point.

I wonder if the death of Wicked Weed will give NoDa an opening to climb through? Ramping up their sours game might allow them to take the mantle of most innovative brewery in NC (non Fonta Flora division). But, did they ever fix their consistency problem with HDR?

Related: Wicked Weed Funkatorium Invitational has been cancelled.  Last I saw, 90-something % of attendees had backed out.....but not Free Range.  Don't know how accurate that list was, but it stuck out.

I believe most of the attendees were basically shifting over to a different festival that could then continue the charitable aspect of the funkatorium. I can't find info on that just now...

Well, it appears a near certainty that Bold Missy will open tomorrow (05/13/2017), so I'll do this now:

Congrats to me, for predicting on Dec 6, with stated "Early 2017" from Bold Missy, that she would open on 05/03/2017.

3/23/2017    11 HouseBZ
3/27/2017    toz
4/12/2017    JT
4/17/2017    hambone931
5/3/2017    grodney
6/15/2017    Clayton
8/1/2017    Hornetshawk

p.s. That's 3 CharMeck brewery openings this month.  Who's next?  Based on public information, I'll make the following GUESS:

Resident Culture (Plaza Mid)

Hyde  (South End)

Heist 2nd Taproom (SoNoEnd)

Divine Barrel (NoDa)

Seaboard (Matthews)

Seaboard is a wildcard because I have no idea what stage they're at.  Hyde and Heist could easily switch.....haven't heard anything about Heist lately......hell, they might be next.  Anyway, I think these all have a SHOT at making it in 2017.....but I wouldn't bet on it.
