On another note, we really need that Lidl.. With this complex, Novel LoSo Station, all the townhomes, the Artistry,  the old rugby center apartments, the future apartments from the San Antonio company on Zack's site..  We've reached critical mass that I shudder to think is all going to flood into an already crowded Sedgefield HT and Publix

Publix and HT are constantly crowded. I frequently have trouble finding parking at the South HT

Maybe people will start walking to the grocery store if the parking situation can become dire enough. South End should have more people walking for errands, but instead seems like residents jump in their Jeep Wrangler or Toyota 4Runner, exit their luxury complex garage, and shop / run errands no different than suburbanites by driving to places like the grocery.

I would love to see the burlington/home depot shopping center (South Blvd/Woodlawn) redeveloped with a grocery store and seamless connection to the woodlawn lightrail station.

I walk to Publix frequently, but I have a family of 4. Carrying 200$ worth of Groceries isn't always the best option.

Agreed that Burlington always seems so empty product wise, not even just foot traffic.  The Burlington spot could be perfect, just don't touch that TJ Maxx or my wife will riot lol

I don't think it's incumbent on someone to walk to the grocery store for  the sake of it. 

I live in DC without a car and I walk to the grocery store at least once a day. If I need more stuff than typical - which is usual - (or shopping for a family of 4) etc. You just bring the silver little cart thing that most people have to carry a lot of groceries back home. My point in mentioning that is not to say "well where I live...."

My point is, people are going to do what is most convenient. And if free parking, etc. etc. is more convenient, then that is what people will take. If the community is favorable to vehicles, if there are certain policies that do not encourage people to use the vehicle less, then well. People are going to drive their SUV's a couple blocks down the road for groceries/shopping. You'd be surprised how fast Pedestrian/biking amenities would happen if say parking or whatever was more difficult and people wanted to take alernative modes of transportation. People would be angry and demand bike lanes ASAP, bigger pedestrian crosswalks, etc. 

 

To provide an example in the Charlotte area. I used to live in Lake Norman (Both Cornelius and various parts of Huntersville) and obviously I've lived in Charlotte. In Charlotte, I was very close to grocery stores and shopping and food but I always drove like. across the street, etc. In LKN, I would generally walk. The reason being was their form-based zoning and they actually have good pedestrian cross walks in lots of areas. In Charlotte, you'd have to walk through a sea of parking lots, etc. where as in LKN, all the stores were pushed to the front and parking in back and that was the standard in the entirety of Huntersville/Cornelius/Davidson. It's laws like those that will get people out of cars and on their feet.

Honestly South blvd in front of the Sedgefield Teeter is a nightmare for pedestrians. If I lived across the street I might hop in my jeep to drive to the teeter (across the street) also.

I walk to the Teeter on South from Solis 2-3x a week. Even with the construction it’s not terrible. If anything needs to change we need the rail trail connected on the opposite side ASAP.

There will be a new animal hospital called Loso Veterinary Hospital located next-door to Lower Left Brewing, across the street from Dogs All Day, in the Zespa building.  Expected opening Late 2022.  The landlord is planning to move the grain tower (I'm probably mis-identifying this structure) from the rear courtyard to the front along Nations Crossing Rd.  

 

I believe there are either 1 or 2 apartment buildings currently planned or under construction immediately behind this parcel.

Fencing is now up around the parcel intended for the taller building in the LoSo Station master plan.  Anyone in the know aware if that's back close to starting up?

Ah that's probably it.  Novel still has their staging materials behind the old Franko Auto.  This is probably for the known offices.  I just saw it quickly today but it looks to be South Blvd facing and outlines the perimeter of the park and ride lot

It’s a lot of fencing, almost the whole lot. Isn’t there supposed to be a parking garage? Maybe that’s going up.

Where is this apartment proposal more exactly? A block away from South blvd and Hollis, on the same side of South blvd? Toward/ the future Lidl or opposite direction?

Yesss very well said, they did look very tragic.. I’ve lived in the area (Colonial Village) since 2010.  I still remember the day after I bought my house, I was getting out of my car in front of the old Earthfair grocery store (or whatever it was called).. I looked over on South Blvd and it looked like a street in Jamaica, decrepit buildings, old car shops and what looked like junkyards or smthng, and to top it off, there was thick black smoke coming out of one of those rundown buildings somewhere in the distance at the horizon line… wtf did I just do I remember thinking and looked scornfully at my girlfriend at the time who insisted I purchase smthng in that area.  I need to send her a gift now, wherever she may be:)))

I'm just glad to finally see development on that side of South.  The only improvements on the east side of the street south of The Waterman has been Carvana and it has looked so unbalanced for a while.  Now we have phase two of Sedgefield, this replacing the arcade, and hopefully the Zack's apartments gets going soon.
