^ The last post was a brain fart. To answer your question bic and uncreativeusername, there is no way to build the back two buildings at seperate times with the hope of integrating them later. If this design was going to be built (which it's not) the phases, as listed on the site plan would have to be changed. The truth is, final designs generally aren't released until about 6 months prior to groundbreaking (as we're seeing with Dynetech). On larger projects like The Plaza, Construction Documents might not even be released until after the groundbreaking when foundation work is taking place. The above rendering gives the owner and developer a chance to determine a budget. If the number seems like it is in a close ballpark, you move on to the next round of pricing, with a modified design. Don't worry, if you weren't a fan of these buildings, your in luck.

Don't get me wrong, I'm tickled to death to see this twenty-year old bombsite developed. But, my gosh! 12 and 29 stories is disappointingly squat.

Hopefully we get 30-35 stories out of the back towers but I'll take anything in that eye sore lot....Looks like they have a decent idea. Remember PBLT also bought the property where 8 Seconds is. We could probably see a resi high rise there as well in the future...

What (if anything) was in that lot before? Has it always been vacant?

EA representatives could not be reached for comment. Barley denied that rumor, saying he has talked with a "wide range" of potential tenants, including an animation studio, a book publisher and a bank. Project representatives said the property's ultimate design would depend on its anchor tenants.

Some animation studios currently in Orlando:

Cecropia Inc.

Project Firefly Animation Studios

Legacy Animation Studios

A&S Animation, Inc.

...and Disney just bought Pixar, though I think a full-blown relocation of their headquarters from Emeryville, CA would be highly unlikely.

That's what I was thinking, and was wondering if EA was a possible tenant for the taller conceptual buildings of city place???

Electronic Arts' Tiburon signed a 5-year lease in July 2004 for their 110,000-squre foot office in Maitland.

Recently our UrbanPlanet.org private eyes unearthed several clues that lead the general consensus to believe that EA's Tiburon will be moving into PBLT. Project renderings including a blurred EA logo, a possible Batman video game (made by EA) screen shot, etc.

Now we learn from this Orlando Sentinel article that the developers want to start construction by summer of 2006 so they can finish by the end of 2008. This is indeed a very aggressive schedule, so why the big rush? Oh right...because Tiburon's 5-year lease that they signed in July 2004 will expire in 2009 and they'll need to either renew or move out.

There is no doubt in my mind that Tiburon is involved with the PBLT development.

By my understanding Dale, the 29-story tower would be the tower in the front-right of the renderings we've been seeing...the tower behind it, also to the right, is supposed to be the tallest in the complex.

You know, you're right. Although the most recent article made no mention of such.

Years ago there was a grocery store and an ice factory. I don't know what was most recently on the lot or when it was demolished.

Here's the story:

Until about '84 or '85, There was a row of old one story storefronts along Orange Ave. On or near the corner of Orange and Livingston was an interesting looking old brick building that had an ornate cornice with either "United Market Building" or possibly "American Market Building" along with the date 1925 cast into ornate masonry. There were also some ornate faux spiral columns and some tile on the facade as I recall. It housed a porno shop for awhile. I think there was a dive bar next door. The rest of the buildings along that block were pretty non descript. I remember a little breakfast and lunch restaurant a few doors down. Around the corner and across from the Hub and Southeast Steel just west of the tracks was a nightclub called "Nickel's Alley", that for awhile in the late 70's and early 80's rivaled Rosie O'Grady's as one of the hot local night spots back in the disco era. There was a red brick walkway or "alley" (ala Gertrude's Walk) parallel to the tracks and separated by a high wall leading to the main entrance which was set back off of Amelia. Around '82 it went Rock-n-Roll and was called "Angel's" for awhile. I saw Gregg Allman play there. In '84 William DuPont built the high rise that now occupies the southwest corner of Orange and Livingston (Bank of America?). When that building was finished he razed the (PBLT) lot across the street with the intention of building an 18 story hotel and parking garage that complimented the office building (I have a picture of the model). They actually did the site preparations and even started driving pilings into the ground when the financing fell through and everything ground to a halt. As a result, we have had that big ugly open scar for the past 20 years. I always think about what a shame it was, first of all to tear down that cool looking old building, as well as the thought of all the businesses, shops etc. that might have been, and the old night club which could have housed who-knows-what. Right before they bulldozed, I called up the Historical Preservation Society and asked them why that old building was being allowed to be demolished. I was told that the block was outside of the designated historical district. I wish now I'd taken a picture of it.
