Yea, I thought about this too.  TBD with all the construction.  Maybe after all the road work finishes this stretch will be more welcoming (and maybe breathe some semblance of life into Marshall Park (while it is still there).

Also I didn’t realize that the Baxter Street Park will be Redeveloped as part of the Pearl Medical District.

That's a big project and I'm surprised media hasn't picked up on it. This is 450 apartments and 15,000 sq feet of retail on 3 acres. For reference Uptown 550 is 421 units on 3.5 acres with 5,000 square feet of retail. You would probably have to go high rise in this location, and with NC (Neighborhood Center) zoning designation, you can build up to 200 feet here with a bonus, to which the affordable component would allow. So we are talking 17-20 floors of residential, likely with the affordable component being a midrise. So we are talking 3 additional high rises coming to Morehead area beyond the three already under construction.

It's less density than Inlivian at Tryon & 7th and a number of other wood frame projects. Given that will have a sizable affordable component, there's no reason to think it would be anything more than wood-frame construction.

Nice pictures. I would much more prefer to have 8 blocks of 5-8 story connected structures that look like the 3rd and 4th photo  than 2 blocks of 20-30 story buildings.  It is starting to look as if that will be in the not-too-distant future.

Excerpts:  "The Charlotte-based health-care giant broke ground today on a 12-story, 1.1-million-square-foot bed tower that is part of Atrium's $1.4 billion capital expenditure investment into its main campus facilities in midtown. The new tower will have 448 beds and include state-of-the-art operating rooms, surgery and procedure suites, cardiac cath labs, interventional radiology suites, diagnostics and imaging, inpatient beds, a helipad and an expanded emergency room, as well as public amenities and dining."  

"In November, Atrium filed a building permit with Mecklenburg County for the tower with an estimated project cost of $892.9 million.  It's being built on the main campus at 1000 Blythe Blvd., where the former Carolinas Rehabilitation hospital and Blythe parking deck previously stood."

If you're on Kings looking at the main entrance, to the left of the main hospital tower/front door.  You never notice this area with the heavy amount of trees lining the creek there.  This will be a bit taller than what it replaced, so not sure if it will be all that noticeable still, given where it sits on the campus.

So between this 31 story tower, the sandwich max tower, and the Wells Fargo tower we will get close to 1400 units in 3 towers. Wow

(though, I know they don't need neighborhood approval as this is by-right zoning, but they could win some friends, or reduce some enemies, and have faux-facade cladding on the parking deck sides facing the neighorhood as well).

For the 31 story tower, were they required to add parking garage cladding or is it just going to be exposed like that? It will be well above the treeline and quite visible going up and down south and from the neighborhood.

Spandrel should really start to fly now, I bet it's topped out in 3 months tops.

Side Note: I took a nice walk around Dilworth today and I cannot help but wonder when Fallon will put a shovel in the ground. That land is sitting their in a pastoral limbo and its in stark contrast to the towers rising nearby. It'll look even sillier when the Akridge's 31 floor building starts rising this fall.
