the Southbank of the St Johns River in Jacksonville has had more recent high rises both residential like these.  These are Miami like condo and apartment towers in Jax.  the taller one is a condo and the shorter one is an apartment tower.

Miami's skyline is just incredible and huge tall buildings going up everywhere.  Mainly residential towers but a couple of offices.  The blue curved building is the new Aston Martin Residence the tallest condo tower south of NYC at 66 floors 817 feet and it along the Miami River and has a crane at the top.  This is one of my top 10 skylines in the country for sure.   Miami nice.  If you have not been in awhile you will not recognize it.  So many new towers.  It is a fun city to walk around if you like skyscrapers.  (when I was there last week it was 80 degrees).  And if you like luxury exotic cars best place in the entire southeast.  (check out the Cars of the QC thread on Charlotte's UP where I did a Miami vice edition)

I consider Miami to be the 3rd best skyline in the US after New York and Chicago!

I also believe Miami has one of the best skylines , but as I’ve said before they are building a epic tragedy. I lived in Florida for a long while, lived though Andrew, seen first hand the roads it pulled right out of the ground, the steel of “Safe” buildings twisted like they were yarns and that’s what was left after the concrete was stripped away and tossed. Not to mention the millions of new residents that they can’t get out in time , no matter how much they try. The infrastructure just will not handle that kind of evacuation. I know you all have heard it before, but the “BIG ONE “” is coming, hell even another Andrew will cause substantial damage to these high rises if hit head on . It’s a known fact that even at 200 feet elevation difference the wind velocity can be 2x more then at the surface. Once the glass gets blown out , it’s pretty much over. Remember also the Florida aquifer which is pretty much under most of the state. The destabilizing effects of a massive land falling hurricane, will cause multiple sinkholes and and the massive storm surge will erode the pilings that make up the foundational footing these buildings rest on. It all looks beautiful and flashy as it sits now, but I’m betting on Mother Nature. We all know first hand what the forces of wind and water can do, it’s just a matter of time

Meanwhile, Omaha comes out from the back just swinging away with what is likely the new tallest for the city & state of Nebraska. Mutual of Omaha wants a new HQ tower, so they'll get what they want.

Gorgeous tower, and congrats to them, but that's gonna stick out like a sore thumb even worse than it's similar looking cousin in Oklahoma City.   Also similar to Oklahoma City, Omaha just announced it's first streetcar line.  Ugh... as much as Nashville has going for it, there are areas where we just really need to step it up.  We are now getting lapped by much smaller, less important, less dense cities in areas where it really matters.   While these towns are making real strides and actually building things, we're over here having actual discussions about whether or not a monorail would be more financially feasible forty years down the road than a double decker expressway.

I'd venture a ballpark around 700ft or so, which isn't going to stick out as bad as you think given the tower on to the right, One First National Center, is 634ft tall. So Omaha already beats Nashville in tallest already. 

Now, the streetcar announcement is just embarrassing for Nashville because while you can have all this fantastic development and new towers, the complete and utter lack of any significant mass transit expansion/creation is pretty sad. *stares at the state legislature in disdain*

Would prove that people will ride transit and build a case for light rail.

Have it cut through Reed District and extend it down Hayes to 21st, run down 21st and connect with Division, run down division to roundabout, then down Demonbreun to 1st and connect back to Broadway. You’d link up Vandy, St Thomas Midtown, and the new buildings going up along Division as well.

It is relatively flat on both sides there, whereas there is a steep incline on the west bank side of the Cumberland here. I think given time the east bank will look better in time, but I am not so sure about the west bank.

Check out how low the bridges are to the water. Obviously not a river with any substantial boat traffic! (I wonder if Des Moines is prone to flooding?)

Just back from the City Beautiful Orlando.  Here is their downtown skyline.  They have a new 28 story residential apartment tower going up.  You can't beat Lake Eola park.

TN DOT could learn a thing or two from FL DOT complete rebuild with tolled express lanes of I-4 right by downtown.  The tolled express lanes are getting ready to open.  Lots of toll expressways in the Orlando metro but they move people around.  Brightline the high speed rail will link downtown Orlando to West Palm, Fort Lauderdale and downtown Miami.  That will open soon.
