Orlando's Hometown National Champions

It seems FSU doesn’t much care about their student-athletes, you know, graduating. As long as you can make the crab legs disappear from Publix, you’re (garnet and) golden!

Oh, in case you were wondering, UCF tied for 8th in the FBS, leading the Florida schools. Charge On!

Saturday Down South asks if Dan Mullen’s “Gator Standard” is really just the Urban Meyer standard, which is of course no standard at all.

Apparently that’s what Chris Steele believes after the folks in Hogtown dropped the ball:

The saddest part of the whole thing is that the Gators have the perfect example of a clean program that won a national championship. Why not emulate the teams built by the ultimate Gator whose statue stands in front of the stadium?

Fun & Gun filled the seats but made sure integrity was a part of the process. They’ve been lacking one or the other or both ever since the Head Ball Coach left.

Love it.   UCF also has the USTA to bolster our tennis programs and it has already paid dividends.   We could stand to do more in becoming a destination golf program and should look at the intangible benefits of adding beach volleyball (now an NCAA sport) and have them compete in Cocoa or Daytona.   Would be as much of a marketing campaign nationally as venues themselves

South Florida is once again taking a different road than UCF by scheduling a 2 and 1 series with The U.

AD Danny White is insisting on 1 and 1’s for any non-conference series. In terms of attendance, he may have a point, as it appears the Bounce House is about to sell out on 2019 season tickets.

South Florida, which is struggling with attendance, has to hope that taking an unequal series with UM and UF will balance out because of the star power of the Power 5 teams increasing their media presence.

I tend to go with Danny - you have to respect yourself before others respect you. We’ll see who’s right.

my philosophy is that bigger is better, so I say expand.  that being said, maybe figure out a way to start converting it into a concrete structure ($$$).

But, for larger games, why not play them at CWS?  Strike a deal with them and host it there...

Because it makes no sense to. UCF would be losing tons of money if it has to pay rent, share concession revenue, lose parking money, etc. They're stuck paying for the maintenance and payments on the on campus stadium whether they use it or not for that game, and so hosting it at home is a sunken cost, but CWS is a new, easily avoidable cost. Even if  UCF manages to sell an extra 20,000 tickets at Camping World (a sellout there vs a sellout on campus), they probably aren't making any extra money with all that lost revenue due to the sharing and no avoided expenditures.

And then logistically, how do the season tickets transfer? The parking passes? Or are we losing those and the season ticket holders lose out on their benefits for a game or 2 a year? UCF's been trying to schedule a 7th home game to provide more value on the season ticket package. Not to mention, its likely to cost more to have to transport everything over from the main campus to CWS. And if its a big game because its hosting another school that travels well, are they going to end up giving up their home court advantage by not playing on their home court?

There's just almost no deal that could make sense to do. Only way UCF plays at CWS is if its a neutral site game, and fully treated as such by all sides (no expectations of returning a game, etc).

“We are talking about a state where upstart UCF has won more games than Florida, Florida State and Miami over the past two seasons...”

The Sentinel ranks FIU #88 in its preseason rankings and looks to have a third successful year under former UM coach Butch Davis.

FIU plays in C-USA and will take on the Lane Train at FAU as well as A non-conference challenge at Miami. the Panthers aren’t scheduled to play our Knights in 2019.

The SEC, “It just means more”, right? We are constantly being told that any P5 team should be regarded as a step above any G5 team.

That’s why this column from the Memphis Commercial Appeal struck me. In a discussion of the teams the Tigers should beat this year, it’s AAC power Cincinnati that is considered the challenge, not Ole Miss from the SEC.

How exactly is that possible given the meme of SEC invincibility? Also note the article is not from the UCF echo chamber which we’re told is to be disregarded.

i would love for someone to explain these disconnects to me one day.
