Orlando's Hometown National Champions

Have you ever wondered where all the diving boards went? They used to be a standard feature of swimming pools but are now as rare as a Bernie Bro tuning into Sean Hannity.

Insurance - or the inability to cover them is why. Now, from the NFL to Pop Warner, football is encountering the same challenge.

How will this change things?

We know why the CFP calls it March Madness - they can’t conceive of a world where every team has a fair and equal chance to win the National Championship.

Oddly, college basketball has been doing it for years and making lots of money in the process.

College Football News believes our Knights will once again Charge On! to finish #1 in the AAC East.

Notre Dame Wimbush will take care of any QB issues and there’s sufficient depth to handle losses from Dredrick Snelson decamping for the NFL.

ESPN holds our Knights steady at #14 on their “way too early” Top 25 list,

Gators are at #8 and The U and FSU are taking a nap.

Meanwhile, FL Rep. Randy Fine wants to shut down UCF after Trevorgate.

Anyone that lives in the h**lhole that is Palm Bay should probably stay quiet as much as possible. If necessary, I’ll be happy to walk his district in 2020 to shut down that sorry excuse for a legislator.

I was struck most in this scenario of what happens next in college football by Tom Fornelli at CBS Sports by how much has already changed in just the last 10 years.

jrs2’s insistence on tradition has already been so rent asunder that the olden days were just a decade ago.

Now, with streaming, he notes that support for your team could matter more than geographic location. It also means up and coming schools like Houston and UCF end up with the big boys while the Vanderbilt’s and Wake Forests are left behind.

Of course, this doesn’t even ponder the fact that the lawsuits regarding head injuries may change everything as well. If you’re skeptical, just think of all the gratuitous warnings on the things you buy and ponder the last time you saw a diving board anywhere.

It’s gonna be fun to see who the next batch of winners and losers will be.

What Danny White’s “Hometown National Champions” campaign has done for UCF.

Suffice it to say we’re now likely the best known team outside the Power 5 (and Notre Dame). The fact that tends to drive some of the old-school football types crazy is just icing on the cake *giggles*.

The St Pete Times on the Knights’ win last night:

Best comment: “... 7’6 senior Tacko Fall, who hails from the Orlando metroplex (Senegal)...”

At least the Times realizes we’re taking over the world!

UCF basketball is currently at 22-6 and possibly on the inside for a tourney invite. I stood next to Tacko Fall, the UCF center, the other night at the Magic/ Warriors game. Yes, he is very tall.

Nice article here-

https://www.theringer.com/2019/3/1/18246109/tacko-fall-central-florida-knights

I like this part... "Fall is the second most physically dominant college basketball player I’ve watched this season, behind Duke’s Zion Williamson." and "He’s missed only 40 shots this year".

OTOH, there's this "He’s missed more free throws this year (93) than he’s missed shots from the field in his past two years combined (64)."

But in the end "I doubt there’s much of a pro future for Fall—good news, he scored in the 95th percentile on his SATs and is a computer engineering major." So, good for him

Seems like a really nice kid, smart, well spoken, good demeanor. Hopefully, he gets UCF a ticket to the dance.

From NCAA.com: “...UCF earnest the biggest win of anyone (on Saturday)...”

The Knights have a chance for another quality win against #23 Cincy Thursday at the CFE Arena. We lost by just five to them last month in a very loud Fifth Third Arena and we’ve improved as a team since then. At home, this is very doable.

Charge On!
