I would assume it would be pretty quickly, maybe tomorrow evening. It’s computerized and there’s only one county voting so it should go pretty quickly. Kind of tense, waiting a day to find out if your city is going to completely take a step up in city tiers or not.

Mayor Bailey is quite active on twitter today. 

One of the replies to his tweet about mobility, seniors, students and those with disabilities...

"@MayorBriley Noticed no comment on tweeter about the vandalism at The Hermitage. Guess it doesn't fit the liberal narrative. I'm a Senior and the street car doesn't help me one bit. #notax4tracks. Street cars went out in the 1930s."

Cabs/Uber/lyft/via are all essentially driverless cars... and 2 or 3 people per car and that’s it will make traffic a nightmare.

It alludes to the point that with a driverless car you ride to work (or wherever you are going) and then send it off without having to park it. Not a literal "Driverless" car, but driverless in that the traditional commuter driver doesn't exist with those services.

Doesn't help him one bit?  Apparently this "senior" assumes he/she will be perfectly mobile and capable of operating a vehicle until the day they die.  And hell, even if they were, as you said, what an incredibly selfish attitude to have.  'Nobody in this city both now and indefinitely into the future should have access to quality mass transit because I won't personally use it.'  

As I and others have said many times before, there is certainly a valid debate to be had about how our tax dollars are allotted and divvied up.  But if you are someone who doesn't want a single penny of yours being devoted to things that don't DIRECTLY benefit you, then sorry, you're a selfish asshole and probably shouldn't be living in an urban environment where sharing some of the burden with your neighbors to some degree is kind of the whole idea.  I have honestly had it with these people who want to reep all the benefits of living in/near a big city but don't want to actually pay the dues necessary to afford them that opportunity.  That attitude drives me up the wall.  It's toxic.

Pass or fail, the underlying pathology isn't going to change. Cars ruin cities. Every lane of speeding cars is an impediment to real neighborhoods and communities. When we build more roads it only encourages people to live further away and commute longer, then demand even more roads to try to escape the traffic they caused.  Cities across the world are realizing that the situation can only be improved by clawing that space back block by block for pedestrians and bikers. It has to be done along with new development patterns. I wish we could set aside just one neighborhood and design it for people instead of cars.

I have to wonder how they weighted the results, but the fact that the poll was conducted via landline throws a monkey wrench into what's presented in my opinion.

honestly, do you know anyone under 40 with a landline?  also, think about who would be willing to answer a poll.  people willing to take the time to answer a poll skews older.

^Exactly... I am inclined to take as a positive sign the fact that basically 40% of those home in the middle of the day that not only have a landline, but actually ANSWER IT even when it's a strange number, and then PROCEED to take the poll even after learning that it's a poll voted FOR the transit plan.  I mean, as both @e-dub and @volsfanwill alluded to, I think it's safe to say that whether intentional or not, it was essentially a polling almost exclusively of generally conservative senior citizens.

Landline? Like, the thing that hung up on your wall in your kitchen? It was only a decade after I was born when that began phasing out of most American homes.  Most people in my cohort (18-24) wouldn't even know how to use one.

Haven’t you guys heard? Just like vinyl records the landline phone is making a comeback. Popular among millennials for its superior sound quality, it’s retro look and the lack of a contract. There is even a new coffee shop opening in town that will be an “airwave free zone”, complete with phone booths to make calls. The phones will however accept Venmo and bitcoin. These hipsters are know as “core connectors”.  I’ve even heard that there will be a new “WiFi free” housing development opening downtown next door to the bachelorette party hotel. Get that old rotary phone out of the attic because they are hot on eBay right now.

I personally really hope this transit plan passes. Do I think this transit plan is perfect? NO! Actually i think its pretty mediocre in terms of the long term, however it really is the only viable option for mass transit Nashvillians have currently.  I would much rather have light rail than driverless cars or only bus rapid transit, light rail is more efficient, convenient and even faster than the other options. Nashville tourism and economic growth will continue regardless of whether this transit plan passes, which might sound good on the surface, but really it just means if a transit plan doesnt pass in the near future, gridlock is inevitable and will be unimaginably bad.

Yeah my gut is saying it won’t pass. The radio airwaves are just blasting with anti-transit, I still haven’t received anything pro-transit in the mail, and the news reports I was hearing ads for seemed to be negative (but that might have just been the idiots they were interviewing in the sound clips).
