  1. Can someone remind me what is now under construction at the corner of Birnie and Gower Streets?
  2. Wow- that’s a beautiful piece for the park! Artisphere is on the verge of releasing their sculpture to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Does anyone know where it will be?
  3. Be on the lookout for the agendas of the upcoming Project Preview Meetings. It may not get built, but ideas are being thought up and money is being spent.
  4. The scuttlebutt is that we'll see a new proposal in the coming months for this site. The parking must be temporary until the design work/permitting is complete (which will likely be after baseball season).
  5. I would LOVE to see this specific project happen. Based on the amount of time that has passed, I'd put my money on a new proposal coming forward.
  6. I sure hope that has changed. *fingers crossed*
  7. Hopefully the residents would be open to it or request it at some point (similar to Club Forest many years ago). Annexation of the golf course at this time is to bring the Chanticleer course under one jurisdiction prior to a major course renovation.
  8. Without some sort of major change, Charleston County should pass Richland County next year to become the second most populous county in the state. However, Horry seems poised to take that title by 2030.

    The West End

I'm excited for this one. Should be well timed to take advantage of good weather. I'm hoping that the experience is similar to Dacha in Navy Yard neighborhood of DC.
  10. The materiality and design actually relates quite directly to the other built elements of the park. I don't have a problem with the design. IMO, much like the park itself, it will say positive things about Greenville, including that Greenville is looking forward.
  11. You're not the only poster to have said this, but I don't understand the idea at all. "Out of place" meaning what exactly? Both buildings will add to the fabric of our urban core. I don't want every single building to look the same. Maybe I'm in the minority.

    The West End

This is back before the DRB in March for approval for demolition.
  13. Great photos, @RestedTraveler! We’ve missed you!
  14. Street trees and perimeter landscaping has been installed. It appears that these should be going vertical any day now.
  15. I’m not saying it’s going to turn out great, but for perspective: if you stripped all of the variations in brick, stucco, panels, railings, and glass off of Deca, you’d have the same exact vibe. The architects should have strictly shown the mass, and not the openings, IMO. The facade is ultimately going to come down to what the developer can afford. Let’s hope it’s a lot, but I’m not convinced based on their last proposal.
  16. Yea, they've been popular for airport parking design for several years. I believe the reasoning is ease of use for unfamiliar users. Having flat parking levels helps directing rental car patrons to a specific level, and helping folks recall where they parked their car many days before (as opposed to several hours before in a typical daily-use facility).
  17. That seems like a large number for studio units. At Deca, there's been a lengthy wait list for 3-bedroom units for years now.
  18. One of the easiest and uncontested facts to find on the internet. Lazy reporting.
  19. Did I hear him correctly? Did he say 'Greenville County is the second most populous county' at the end of his report?
  20. I think you've nailed this, @distortedlogic. A 25 story residential building would be approximately the same height as Falls Tower, putting it about 60' taller than Liberty Two.
  21. Cherrydale annexation received initial approval last night. I know we've seen numbers about the loss of revenue from the Parker District folks, but I have wondered about the financial upsides for the City of Greenville. The Greenville Journal has provided the following from last night's meeting: Pretty substantial influx for properties that don't require a lot of services, IMO.
  22. Anyone else dislike the amount of ads that are now all over UP? I'd rather pay for a subscription than deal with this amount of advertisements. It almost makes it impossible to view the site on a phone.
  23. I thought all of this was a part of Unity Park, or at least wetlands. Intrigued to see what this rezoning is all about.
  24. This is an interesting development. Based on the previous proposal, I have reservations about the possible exterior appearance, but I'll keep an optimistic outlook for now. Due to the pool deck over the parking, the actual 'tower' itself seems fairly narrow. Based on the tower dimensions and the uses identified on the site plan, I don't think they're adding another use to the building. I think it's just an adjustment in footprint and possibly additional apartments.
  25. This is kind of an interesting use of space coming to the ground floor of the Daniel Building. 'School Food Rocks' is locating their HQ, training kitchen, and podcast studios in the space facing College Street. UBJ Article
