  1. No -- look again. The one on the P&C is the old, smaller design. Just seems to be an oversight on their end. Smaller design, 6 floors on the left side: Current design, 8 floors on the left side:
  2. No, we've seen the taller version, and it's gone before the DRB I believe. It's also what is on the Delano website: https://delanounitypark.com/
  3. P&C used the old rendering for that article, didn't they?
  4. The cultural corridor improvements are a sort of in-kind incentive for this project.
  5. Actually, the Church Street timeline was updated a while back to say winter, and they have removed the existing street lights from the bridge.
  6. Carmella’s outdoor space got defined and planted this weekend.
  7. Well, it is. My point is that the large trees, light poles, etc. are all obstacles that the driver will hit before the pedestrian. Impaired drivers can be anywhere. But, a busy street is more safe with the kind of infrastructure previously mentioned.
  8. I don’t know, but that may very well allow them to be adequately staffed with a slim crew to make it work well. Better than being understaffed and not cutting it. Who knows?!
  9. I hear what you’re saying and agree, but as a counterpoint: Church Street between Augusta and Camperdown actually feels rather safe with the lighting, trees, and grass between the wide sidewalk and the street. It’s all about the infrastructure and details. Reasons I only want to live within the City limits where these corridors exist.
  10. Absolutely. I'm proud of our city and its residents. Yesterday was record turnout for a local election.
  11. It’s Election Day! If you live in the City, your voice is critical in this race. Please go vote!
  12. Grand Opening is this coming Saturday.
  13. Some big numbers in there. I hope one of them is downtown.
  14. Hmmm - Southern Tide just announced that they were relocating their corporate HQ to the former Borden building development by Unity Park.
  15. Agreed! I think this is a testament to the evolution of McBee Avenue and generally of the development of activity on streets not named "Main". Hopefully they're able to land some quality tenants with staying power.
  16. I appreciate the large "Spartanburg" signage. The whole thing is going to look fantastic.
  17. I find it interesting that no one else felt compelled to submit a bid for this site. How does this number compare to similar sized land purchases, or break down in comparison on a $/SF basis?
  18. I had a dream last night that you broke the news to UP that the winning proposal was a collection of low rises (2-3 stories).
  19. But, County Square will NOT feel like a mall. Or so I’m told.
  20. I assume Lululemon will be abandoning their location at Falls Park? If so, that's a big blow to Main Street retail.
  21. Their past experience doesn’t make me exited.
  22. Maybe this isn't clear: I absolutely consider County Square and all of those other areas you mention to be downtown. The distinction that is being drawn is how well this development is ultimately physically and psychologically connected and integrated into the fabric of our urban core. It should not feel like you're crossing a threshold onto the former County Square property. I don't hear people say "I'm going to the West End tonight," unless they're downtown residents and indicating which neighborhood they're going to.
  23. I may be misinterpreting this, but I don't think we're all discussing the same thing here. I think @apaladin is ultimately referring to the potential for this development to feel too new, inauthentic, or set apart. For example, is one side of Howe Street going to feel completely disjointed from the other side? Is the proposed condo building at the traffic circle going to feel distinct (in a bad way) from the adjacent new construction that carries some sort of overall vibe? In those ways, it could feel like a mall in terms of being master developed. Atlantic Station in Atlanta doesn't feel authentic, and it feels like a distinct destination. It feels like a mall (or lifestyle center) of an elevated sort. Some of it is psychological and will greatly depend on signage and branding. Will people going to [insert tenant name here] say they're going downtown or to County Square for a night out? It will be interesting to watch. Ultimately, the City of Greenville should be the ones guiding signage and perhaps providing wayfinding in order to guarantee that it ties into the rest of downtown.
  24. I understand that the chains make some folks happy and they like what their presence says about Greenville. But, am I the only one that finds that underwhelming? Hopefully some local restaurant groups are also signing leases to provide more interesting options. If I wanted a chain equivalent of Cheesecake Factory, I'd drive to the sprawling side of town. Unrelated, I hope the City is contemplating some serious transit options for better connecting nodes around downtown.
