I love that shot! It seems to pull our eye in every direction, but never lets you forget what the main subject is.

I was just thinking...

Wouldn't it be cool if they add two smaller wings to the side of the MCS, and stack a Stalinesque tower atop the current building?

This is, without a doubt, the most realistic MCS proposal i have seen to date.

It's so frustrating that the plans to redevelop Eastern Market are going so slow. With a bit more love and care, it could be an even brighter jewel than it already is.

Yah. Russell got repaved, but that's about it. I thought under the Cool Cities grant that progress would have been seen already.

Ate at Sala Tai last weekend. Mmm Mmm Mmm...one of Detroit's best. So good!

I do enjoy being over there, but tell me, that huge parking rectangle in the middle of everything. I'm pretty positive that buildings used to sit there, am I wrong somehow? And what the heck happened to them?

I'm imagining something like the flatiron building in NYC going into this location...but of course keeping the infamous coney joint on the lower level! I just dont like the way the Lafayette Building looks so poorly from this shot.

I would like to see something like Times Square,NY going in here. It is the perfect location. Maybe a building could be built on top of the coney islands. Does Detroit even have a New Years Celebration?

I really hope some streetscaping is eventually planned for the area. This side of downtown has always felt oppressive in it's lack of greenery, or other street elements. There is barely a tree, planter, or other vegitation in sight, and unfortunately, even if this were to have been taken in the summer, it's look nearly the same.

I was thinking the same thing today while walking on Lafayette between Shelby & Griswold. The whole south side of the street is really ugly with that new parking garage...it could use a couple trees to brighten things up a bit.

Public art has arrived on Washington Boulevard. General Pulaski is going to be placed in the median at Michigan Avenue, and a new Frank Gehry-esque sculpture has been installed in the median at Clifford Street.

Oh how I dislike modernist art... But I suppose it shows they at least care, even if Washington Blvd. in it's current state looks like a girl dressed up for a party that doesn't exist. I sound so pessimistic...

If public art needs to be anywhere, though (regardless of personal taste), it's Washington Boulevard, easily one of downtown's best showcases. Sometimes, I wish Woodward and Washington were switched. Washington would have made a grand main street for Detroit. Not that Woodward doesn't, but Washington seemed more fitting. If you've ever been to the Champs Elysee in Paris you know what I mean.

Could you give me some history? Woodward looks like it was supposed to be the main street simply for it's location.
