Independence Corridor

Based on the one I see in Houston, Top Golf complexes seem to take a large amount of space. If this is built near the Bojangles Arena, I'm guessing the best place to put it is on this parcel:

This is not city owned land, but it is right across the street from the arena and the proposed sports mulitplex. Depending on how they build it, they could also place the front near or on Monroe road. Works well with the upcoming streetscape, too.

The Coliseum Center has been purchased by a different owner, different than the one reported earlier. He plans to either move ahead with the old plan of renovating the center, or to completely tear it down and develop new retail space along with entertainment uses.

Looking at the development map, it looks like a frontage road connecting eastway to the walmart (and pierson dr) was recommended at one time in a CIP package. It stands to reason it's still on the city's radar, especially  if it meant eliminating right turns onto indy from the walmart.

Guess this would be the best topic to place this in. If not, feel free to move it.

Infill project of 26 Modern-Style homes.  4 of them are already complete with the model open. Starts in the 400's. Interesting to see this type of development in Oakhurst.

There is already a development like this right beside where I live now, not too far away from there. Just look at Craig Ave between Sharon Amity and Hazelhurst. Almost the same thing as these pictures.

The Oakhurst area is a real hidden gem I think.  It has great housing stock, wonderful old trees all around, easy access to major roads, reasonably good school districts, etc.  Housing and land values are still very affordable considering all of this.  It's future all hinges on what happens with the planned mixed use property at Chippendale and Monroe.  If (when?) that happens and becomes what has been envisioned, it will be a catalyst for the entire area to become, I think, one of Charlotte's great neighborhoods close into town.

The old Kmart near Sardis had its lights on this morning. Not sure if that's connected to the Top Golf news, or if someone else is scoping out that parcel. On a related note, I ran across this:

Not sure how old this plan is, or if it's still in the works.

To follow up with my last post, the owner of the old Kmart site has submitted something in Accela. Looks like the developer they're working with wants to use the old building for an office.

Yes, I have a friend working on this deal.  I was not given the tenant's name, so I cannot help out there.  However, my friend did confirm that Top Golf did look at this site.  It was implied that they passed on i.

What's surprising to me about this "plan" is the amount of water shown, if that blue stuff is supposed to represent water. It appears they would be damming Irvins Chreek where it goes under Independence and having a pond or lake on that side of the road.

Lately there has been work going on in the valley down there between the car wash and the former SuperK site. I doubt that's what they're working on, but that would be crazy.

^That's just an optimistic visual from the City's area plan. The blue areas are flood plain along the creek, not lakes.

Yeah, I just drove through there. That's kinda what I figured. The low-lying areas are what's highlighted, so flood-plain makes sense.
