I saw a rendering a long time ago with 28 story office tower with a hotel but I am sure that is off the table now but the Enterprise lot will be at least 2 towers one office one maybe hotel or residential but likely  the latter but what do I know I am out of town.   The plan I saw long time ago had office tower, another tower and residential wrapping a parking garage.  It is already on the List of 60 towers.

Right?! How are we supposed to rent a car now so we could park it in central square where we are not even allowed to park ugh. So unfair. Curse these developers for making a more useful and conducive environment than a parking lot!!

And here it is... Another mixed use tower coming to Southend at the old Price's Chicken Coup spot  ... This time: 30 stories. 291 apartments, 10k office space and some retail.

This project will cover the whole corner, 1600 and 1614 Camden. Catalyst owned the corner building and is buying Price’s land for an undisclosed figure.

This was on the my  list of 60 towers not started but proposed.  I think we need a new High  Rise Southend thread for all these apartment towers.   

1. Price Chicken tower 30 story

2.  Southern Land 30 story tower

obviously we have the 3 tower Riverside tower complex

plus coming soon Enterprise lot which is at least 2 towers

upcoming 24 story Portman apartment tower

someone way back wanted Southend to have a skyline and it will have one that rival any in the Carolinas except uptown.

""The old Price’s Chicken Coop site will become a 30-story luxury apartment tower under plans announced today by Catalyst Capital Partners, a Charlotte-based real estate firm, and Florida-based Stiles.  The building will have 291 apartments, 9,500 s.f. of retail and about 10,000 s.f. of office space, which Catalyst will occupy when the building is complete. Yes the Walgreens tower forgot about that Greystar is doing along with a smaller office tower by White Point Partners.  I am telling you we need a new High Rise Southend thread for all these apartment towers.   Plus an high rise behind the Railyard too.

It will rival any city in the southeast outside Charlotte and Atlanta.

Funny Dimensional Funds is now considered a midrise with all the 20 plus story buildings built or coming to Southend.  But it still looks great and Early Girls is coming soon.   Plus other midrises like the Holiday Inn Express have a great restaurant spot on the corner next to the park.   The urban fabric of Southend is great due to these smaller buildings.   The Hawk will be a midrise once the newer apartment towers of 30 stories are built but it has the Brooklyn based Detroit style pizza place.

I have not seen a rendering but there might be one floating out there but I have not seen it. 

 

I wonder what the recent SouthEnd announcements portend for the now (seemingly (and thankfully) abandoned - the sign and fence have disappeared and the lot is now given over to parking for The Vintage)  OnShera Courtyard. I mean, I think a hotel there wouldn't be awful, but make it more urban and now high-rise not a suburban EIFS disaster.

This looks like it would have been quite comfortable at any freeway offramp in any anonymous suburb in America (from Our Portfolio - OmShera Hotel Group) and definitely not what I wanted to see in my neighborhood.

that lot where OmShera had in Dilworth was sold that hotel is not happening.  They are doing a high rise hotel on Hawkins St next to Krispy Kreme now.  I think that was sold for residential tower if I am not mistaken.

The buyer of the Dilworth Courtyard site just filed a rezoning with no site plan.  It asking for expanded flexibility on use and density, in exchange for promising on-site parking minimums.

This is why Southend is so desirable by many now the mixture of old and new and small and short buildings and tall and grand buildings.    Last photo is the Fulcrum condos underway and I heard the prices on the remaining units have gone way up.

Carolina Business Journal has a story about Aspen Heights buying property in the "South End" area, in reality Southside Homes area. I have mentioned here in another thread sometime back that of all the public housing of the 1940's and 50's, and I named eight or nine of the projects, Southside alone remains. Bethlehem Center may be a reason why that is so.  Among the properties in this purchase is that of Bethlehem Center, now known as Alliance Center for Education. When I started my professional career I was at a school within the remit of Bethlehem Center and we had two women call on us and work with the children from their area at the school during school time to support attendance, learning, community connections, and school activities. One was a woman who lived in the Southside community and another was a young woman who was the wife of the young assistant pastor of Dilworth Methodist church. Her husband was born on the same date as I, M/D/Yr, the same. One does not forget that. Bethlehem Center was a settlement house. For those unfamiliar with the term I proffer:

The local Methodist women were the agents for our local movement. They were following the efforts of settlement houses elsewhere. It is unfair in the extreme to mention settlement house without mentioning Jane Addams. When I was a boy her name was still famous and I read a short biography of her when I was in the period of youth where bios of heroes are popular in juvenile reading. Her life is one amazing accomplishment atop another. Lesbian, church leader, Founder of ACLU, first among the American Sociological Association, Nobel Peace Prize recipient, and bringer of light, health and life to many without hope of such things through Hull House, her Chicago life work. It is sad her standing has diminished with passing time. She deserves to be remembered. I read her life accomplishments and I feel small and of little account:

In this context is the history of Bethlehem Center. I hope Aspen Heights builds something of note. Thank you for reading this. It is a small repayment for my Jane Addams inspiration in my youth.

An Austin, Texas-based real estate developer this week closed on its purchase of several South End parcels that are currently home to the Alliance Center for Education.

In two separate transactions, Aspen Heights Partners purchased about 2.75 acres for more than $4 million, according to Mecklenburg County real estate records. The Alliance Center for Education sold its 2.29 acres on Baltimore Avenue, Remount Road and Norfolk Avenue to the developer for $3.28 million, and United Methodist Women sold its 0.52-acre property at 2711 Norfolk Ave. for $770,500. Both sales closed Dec. 1.

In September 2020, Charlotte City Council unanimously approved Aspen’s rezoning request for the site, which included all 16 parcels that were just sold.
