There's a stage about half the height of the UNCC building that has been erected, its a pretty large presence.

most likely it will as will the 2 tenants Chopt and Starbucks as they were put in after this LLC from DC bought this building and could be seen as amenities for the hotel guests especially the Starbucks.

@cltdevelopment and I have learned the historic Johnston Building in Uptown will be converted to a hotel…THIS IS AWESOME

This building was completed in 1924 and has some pretty amazing history behind it. Here’s the quick wiki summary

- 212 S Tryon
- 172,382 SF of space
- 226’ tall and 17 stories. It was the tallest building in Charlotte for 2 years.
- 2 more floors were added in 1929
- The site was sold in 1923 for $100 after a fire
- Spaulding & Slye Investments owns the building and JLL manages the property

CLT Development and I are absolutely STOKED about this. Not only are we keeping a historic building, but the use of a hotel is perfect for the site.

Excited by this:

1) reduces office space from market, and pushes those tenants to other office properties
2) really excited if it's Marriott Tribute or Hilton Curio or a 21c Museum Hotel

Hilton Curio and Indigo Hotel have both been linked to adaptive re-use hotels in Charlotte that have not materialized in the past (Tryon Plaza and Hall House). I would LOVE to see a 21C here, thats my preference.

This awesome! Makes me think of the hotel conversion at the Foshay Tower in Minneapolis!

Well this is now official but I heard this could happen months ago Bank of America is leaving 2 buildings in uptown and leaving lots of space behind.

""The banking giant is leaving its space in Fifth Third Center at 201 N. Tryon St., where it occupies 316,751 square feet. That office is located across from its global headquarters at 100 N. Tryon St. in uptown Charlotte. A BofA spokesperson told CBJ it plans to leave the 201 N. Tryon St. property after its lease expires in July 2025. Cousins Properties, the landlord for Fifth Third Center, is planning a major amenity overhaul at the property once Bank of America exits. "We are already working to finalize plans to reenergize this property with amenities and upgrades similar to those we have successfully completed at projects across our Sun Belt portfolio," Richard Hickson, Cousins' executive vice president of operations, said during a February earnings call.""

I think this is a fine building and after a refresh should be as competitive as any in uptown Charlotte.

""BofA is also moving out of a 242,820-square-foot office space it occupies in Gateway Center at 901 W. Trade St., less than a mile away from Fifth Third Center. It expects to vacate after its lease expires in September, BofA's spokesperson said.

"We’re just consolidating some teams so they can work together on behalf of our clients and engage in their teams," the spokesperson said.

There will be no job losses associated with the moves, the spokesperson said. BofA did not provide information on how many employees it has in the buildings.

Employees currently assigned to those two buildings will be relocated to existing, available workspace in five other properties BofA occupies in Charlotte, the spokesperson said. Those are Bank of America Corporate Center at 100 N. Tryon St.; 1 Bank of America Center at 150 N. College St.; 401 N. Tryon St.; Bank of America Tower at Legacy Union at 620 S. Tryon St.; and Gateway Village at 800 W. Trade St.""

Now this building the Gateway Center could be more problematic.  I hope maybe Johnson and Wales could use it or maybe someone can convert this building out of the office market altogether.
