Hey guys, sorry I havent posted lately, Ive been out of town for a while and purposely wanted to avoid access to the internet for my last brake before session starts...you understand! :)

I'll just kind of chime in on random parts to briefly catch up:

From FL

"Fortunately, on a national level, she has more lovers than foes."

Not quite buddy, her negative ratings last I saw nationwide were hovering around 49%. That is unbelievable. She is quite possibly the most devisive individual American Politics has ever seen.

"BHDR, Can you refresh my memory on how the Clinton's wrote the book on modern dirty politics?

I don't think the Democratic congress had enough votes to accomplish most of what they were elected to do. The President is still the commander of our Armed forces and without the votes to impeach him, there's nothing the Democrats could do. Plus the republican congress gave him the authority to go to war without congressional approval. That's perhaps Hillary's greatest flaw in this whole mess, bowing to the Post Sept 11th pressure to blindly support the president and trust that he would make responsible decisions based on sound intelligence

Ask anyone in politics, Democrat or Republican, who is the "King/Queen of Mean," they will tell you it is the Clintons. They are a well oiled machine, and they (attempt to) plow through anyone who gets in their way.

Good attempt at spin on your war claim, but many Democrats voted (you can look up the roll call on the house and senate websites if you want!) to give him that same authority ;). All the senators had complete access to the same information that President Bush had and came to the same conclusion. I know its a good talking point for the Dems to say they were misled, but it is a blatant lie.

"Congrats on Obama's victory last night. I think he made the best of his opportunity to speak last night afterwards. Not bad for a guy who's been running for president since kindergarten."

Haha another decent shot at spin FL, keep it up! But Im sure something we said we wanted to do in kindergarten could come back and haunt us all. I wanted to be an astronaut and the guy who pushes jets back from the gate at an airport from when I took my first flight (age 4). Good thing my present employer doesnt know about that haha!

Whats worse than Obama saying that is Hilary planning on intending to run for President for the last 20 years.

BHDR and Poonther:

I am a registered Republican (duh haha) and was raised Southern Baptist but now am Presbyterian.

I agree with most things BHDR says except for his conclusion. I am NO fan of Mike Huckabee. There are a number of his economic and social policies I dont agree with, and he would be VERY easy for the Dems to defeat. Notice how you havent heard a single negative comment about him from the Dem side. They are waiting for if he becomes the nominee. He's also got an extremely easy pass from the press, but that will likely change if he stays competitive and they dig into him.

Im not a huge fan of McCain. I dont dislike him, but hes not my first choice. But he is very likable by people, the press, and both sides of the political aisle. If he keeps the momentum and wins the nominee, he may be tough to beat.

Edited to jump to the next page so everything I typed wouldnt be lost.

What happens if Thompson doesnt win SC? Nothing yet. He needs to at least finish top 3 there though. Now if he hasnt gained any traction after Super Tuesday, then I think the campaign may need to consider some things. He may be a viable VP pick if a more moderate candidate like McCain or Giuliani end up getting the nod. Its still way to early to know how this thing is going to play out. "Experts" are acting as if they know, but they have to bring in ratings on TV, but they dont have a clue!

I will briefly say about Ron Paul that I actually like some of the things he stands for, mainly that he wont sign an unbalanced budget (which we can thank Rudy Giuliani for helping the line item veto being ruled unconstitutional), and that he is a big time federalist, like Thompson. Having said that, I do think he's a bit looney.

FL, I dont understand why you dislike Edwards so much as a "D." I saw a poll the other day that asked Republicans if they had to voted for a "D" which one would it be? John Edwards was the leader with around 30% or so. Thats pretty big, even though he's as left as Hilary, he still plays well in the South. Ive said it many times before, but if you elect Hilary as your nominee, the "R's" will have the White House for 4 more years regardless of who they put up...even Huckabee.

Crist appoints Walt McNeil new Department of Corrections Chief

I think Walt McNeil will do an excellent job in this new position. He is a huge asset to our community & State. I miss him as our TPD Chief but I'm glad to see him continue to advance in his career & I'm glad he is still a resident of Tallahassee.

Good to have you back GG, the political discussion just aren't the same w/out your spin....I mean comments. :) You failed to answer one important question, while you were on break, did you get a tan?

I'm happy to know I was wrong about you being a Huckabee fan, but I'm not sure from your comments if you don't like him b/c of your own personal reasons or b/c your party doesn't like/support him?

I must say his Fair Tax plan is interesting although I don't really know that much of the details about it. My SIL/BIL in Clermont (definitely not one of my favorite areas of FL) are huge Fair Tax plan supporters...complete w/bumper stickers on their cars.....and will for vote for Huckabee for this reason only even though they disagree w/him on most other issues. I keep telling them that even if he does get elected, his Fair Tax Plan is an uphill and probably losing battle b/c one man can't change the system alone. What do you think about it?

Go after FL on his love of Hilary on the points all you want, but don't fault him or the Clinton's for being "a well oiled machine" b/c the same can be said for the Bush family of which I know from reading your comments you are huge fan.

I was watching the news last night and the subject of Edwards came up and how he has the right message, but just isn't getting the media attention he needs or deserves.

All my family members in AL who are just about as conservative as you can get were so excited about their poster guy Thompson running for Prez, however so far he doesn't seem to have generated the excitement nationwide has he has in the rural South. I've often wondered why? Maybe it's b/c he just doesn't seem to really want to be Prez? I'm not sure if that's true or not, but he sort of seems to convey that vibe. I guess SC will tell us more about him and his chances.

Finally, Glenn, I agree w/all you say about McNeil, I was very sad to see him leave TPD.

I am for Thompson. But I am ALL FOR THE FAIR TAX. I think it is possible if people would just really take the time to read the Fair Tax book and understand how bad our current system is. The big reason most poloticions are against it is because they are going to lose a lot of control that they have now on the current with holding they have now. Plus it is going to make EVERYONE pay there fair share. The lower class will come out smelling like a rose on the Fair Tax plan. The rich will still continue to pay the most because they will still be able to buy the most.

If we dont change our current system the US is going to continue to run it's largest businesses away.

I understand on W. I just wish that he would grow and pair and stand up for what he preached in 2000. I am still behind him but I am not happy with A LOT of things he has done.

Sorry TJ, I am not a fan of any Clinton. She is just to socialist for me. :)

City kills proposed business tax boost

1.24.2008

The city of Tallahassee "postponed indefinitely" a proposed increase in the business tax Wednesday after staffers talked to business leaders worried about the economy, City Treasurer-Clerk Gary Herndon said.

The City Commission was scheduled to consider the 5-percent tax increase during Wednesday's meeting.

"Right now with the current business situation, it's probably not a good time to be looking at this issue," Herndon said. "There are no plans to bring it back in the near future."

The tax increase was set to bring in an extra $90,000 or so a year for the city. Last year, the tax generated about $1.8 million. Tallahassee increased the tax in 1995 and 2006. State law allows a maximum increase of 5 percent every two years.

Business leaders applauded the announcement.
