IKEA's Charlotte Store

I'd say the best part about this store is the taxes it will generate.

That's the biggest thing about landing an IKEA in Charlotte. It's not about "prestige" like some people insist. It's about the fact that people make pilgrimages to this store from long distances - and leave behind their sales tax $ (CATS should look forward to this). Is there any other store brand in the Carolinas that would compete for that tax money - I mean that people would travel distances to? I can't think of any. IKEA is going to funnel tax $ from the whole region into Charlotte.

Lord know friends and I have taken more than a few pilgrimages to Atlanta, and I don't even like Atlanta.

I've been to IKEA myself and I must say that I wasn't impressed. The furniture seems cheaply made. Kind of like the Abercrombie of home furnishings. Made cheaply, but marked up 500%. I won't be wasting my money there. But good for Charlotte I suppose.

I own no Ikea furniture, but it has become a joke for some friends of mine and I to stop at any Ikea when we stumble across one on a road trip (here in the US and several times in Europe) to eat. You just can't beat the deliciousness of their Swedish meatballs and a nice ligonberry torte.

I worked at the IKEA in Schaumburg for a short while and I was paid roughly $7.50. It was more or less just a supplement job but proved to be exhausting since the hours were odd.

But yeah, it was roughly $7.50 in a Chicago suburb.

I drove by it twice on Tryon yesterday. I honestly don't see why it isn't open. The only thing in the way of it being open are the road cones. From every angle it looks complete.

IKEA will be placing a 15x15 furnished room in downtown Charlotte for people to look at before the store opens on the 18th. It is supposed to be inside some kind of box.

Do you mean the IKEA? Or the road? Stores take a lot of time to make sure things are ready for a grand opening. Training, stocking, security (making sure cameras are covering all angles), then they send in people to test the store to make sure its safe and the flow works. Plus they can't open until a fire marshal grants approval.

or take City Boulevard to southbound Tryon and make a U-turn by the Waffle House (which would be disastrous).

I cant wait! A week from today! Ive been want to get something from there for my apartment but could never do it because the closest IKEA (Atlanta) is to far to drive to and you cant order the product online. Ive been waiting for months and I will definately be driving from Greensboro to Charlotte! I expect people within a 200 mile radius will drive to the Charlotte store.

WoW its really going to be a long line when they open. They said you can start lining up Monday and the store doesnt open till Wendesday. The first 100 people will get a free chair.
