It looks like the HJ Building may come down sooner than later. They have been working to sever utilities on Broad St. and the HJ 

plaque on Main St has been removed. It looks like the HJ has already vacated the building!

 

Also, I saw soil borings being done on the Kennedy St. site where Andrew Babb/ John Baughtnight and later Bogue Wallen announced

the 40-50 unit apartment building adjacent to the parking garage there.  That seemed to be dead, but someone is interested enough to

have had the borings done this past week.

My understanding was that it wasn't dead per se, just on pause due to higher interest rates and construction costs, like other projects.

We ever going to hear anything about all of these secret mixed use developments the city council keeps having executive sessions about?

My guy who own a piece of property near where the ball field will be says HJ building coming down very soon to make way for a new hotel.

Has anyone else heard that?

Found that the old Stone Lighting site (148 Oakland Ave.) has been listed for sale.  They're suggesting 11 townhomes (potential for 18 with a neighboring parcel) which would be nice additional residential density, but it would be a shame to lose those grand historic homes...

This site is already under-contract.  Will be interesting to see if the buyers go with the suggested development or something else (assuming the sale closes).

Updated Oakland Ave. Townhomes plans in the March 5 DRB packet.  Rooftop decks changed a bit, and we've got a detailed site/landscape plan that improves the sidewalk there.  Again, I really like this project and hope it's approved.

Here's some new renderings of the townhome project on Oakland Ave.  I guess the design is less "busy" now, which is what the DRB wanted.  Roof decks are a bit different.  Again, seems fine to me.  No need to nitpick this to death.  Staff recommends approval.  https://spartanburgsc.portal.civicclerk.com/event/141/files/agenda/319
