The city of Norfolk has secured its first federal grant to help offset the cost of building a 20-plus acre park in the St. Paul’s neighborhood that will double as a flooding mitigation tool:

Total cost of the project is $40 million. This grant is for $4mil and they have applied for a total of $35 mil in grants that would require up to a $25 mil match. The article also notes that no matter how the grants fall, they have budgeted for the entire cost.

Looks good. We all hoped it would be taller, but this isint bad either. Lets just hope we keep pushing forwards in a stable condition. This is one of our last chances to expand/improve the downtown and surrounding areas. Until MacArthur mall is toppled or that field of grass in front of the courthouse is built on, this really is one last chance at making the jump from small city to medium hub. Theres always going to be a new chance, but this whole thing is our biggest chance yet.

https://www.pilotonline.com/2023/10/25/proposal-for-norfolk-shopping-center-aims-to-bring-grocery-store-back-to-st-pauls/

Under the proposed redevelopment plan, the current shopping center and adjacent gas station parcel would be torn down and replaced with a new development called The Village, Washington said during a presentation to the City Council work session Tuesday. The first phase of construction would include a 31,000-square-foot grocery store, a 12,000-quare-foot rebuild of the damaged shopping center and a 25,000-square-foot job training facility, according to Washington. Later phases call for an 80,000-square-foot cultural and community center, 15,000-square-foot commercial and small business center and a 4,400-square-foot Sentara clinic.

Apologies if this has been mentioned already but I don't remember seeing anything about it on here recently.

On the agenda for the March 28th Planning Commission meeting is the following under new business:

TWG PHASE A, LLC, Development Certificate for St. Paul’s Blocks 9, 10, 16

You can view the agenda here:
