We need some live music (Nashville or Austin) establishments on Granby. Also, the city needs to bring back First Fridays.

A briefing on the development project was scrubbed from the Virginia Beach City Council agenda in April at the request of the mayor. Jenkins wants to build a convention center hotel and apartments on what is currently surface parking lots. “This has the potential to be a significant game changer for us and really elevate us as a tourist destination,” Mayor Bobby Dyer said at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.

We truly have witnessed an explosion in events at the Oceanfront. Incredible, really. I commend the City for putting their money where their mouth is when it comes to tourism investment.

Construction could now begin before the end of the year on the combined 237 acres, which straddles both sides of Dam Neck Road near where it meets Harpers Road. In total, the company behind the development is expected to invest more than $383 million and create more than 1,000 new jobs, according to the city. Those jobs will pay an average of $17 per hour at the large facility and $20 per hour at the 219,000-square-foot facility.
