I googled this site hoping to find out what "sweet 16" means. It doesn't answer that question, but I note that VCU still "don't get no respect."

Scroll to the chart and check the schedule of game times for today (March 18th.) It shows that "USC/VCU" will go up against Georgetown at 9:45PM. :dontknow:

8PM on March 18th:

 The website mentioned above fixed itself and USC is no longer in the 9:45PM time slot with VCU in the tossup with Georgetown.

After UR's win over Morehead State last night and advancement to the Sweet Sixteen, three Virginia teams are still playing in the NCAA Tournament.

George Mason meets Ohio State today (Sunday) at 5pm from Cleveland where there will be a tremendous Ohio State fan contingent. Game on CBS.

At 7PM, VCU will also be in unfriendly territory when they go up against Purdue tonight at 7PM in Chicago. (Purdue in Indiana is not far from Chicago.) Game on TBS.

Virginia had three teams competing in the NCAA Tournament but, unfortunately, George Mason was eliminated this afternoon when they lost to powerful Ohio State by a score of 98 to 76.

Both Richmond teams, the University of Richmond and VCU will meet their opponents (which have not yet been named) in San Antonio next Friday.

Scroll down to the chart listing winners and competitors. Tomorrow (or later tonight) it will probably list which team will play whom in the Sweet 16.

Watching TV, I see that Kansas now leads Illinois 41 to 37 with seventeen minutes remainining. The winner will play U of R in San Antonio.

And with 7 minutes left in the 1st half, Florida leads Notre Dame 23 to 15. The winner will meet VCU in San Antonio

The RTD has compiled a collection of notes about VCU in the NCAA Tournament.

Here's one of them:

"VCU's 94 points were the third highest total in the tournament and its second highest of the season."

From today's RTD:

Oklahoma City Thunder pro Eric Maynor who is VCU's most famous basketball alumnus has been keeping in touch with the Rams and offering encouragement.

VCU's head coach has been a regular on ESPN the last few days talking about their NCAA run. Apparently it was a literal "burning of their February schedule" during a practice that helped motivate the team. I think they have the best shot out of the two RVA schools to advance to the elite 8. UR has a tough task with Kansas.

Both Universities will have send-offs to their respective teams tomorrow as well as a rally at The Canal Basin later in the day.

From Breaking News at RTD:

Here's a bit more about the event that I received in a university email:

Citywide Pep Rally

There will be a community pep rally for VCU and the University of Richmond at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, at the Canal Turning Basin, between 14th and Dock streets on Virginia Street in Shockoe Slip. Both university presidents will attend and make remarks. The university presidents and their entourages will arrive by canal boat and be greeted by the mayor. Buses are being arranged to transport students to the event. Free T-shirts for the first 500 attendees.

Approximately 70 VCU students are needed to help out with the celebration. Students are needed to help decorate two VCU canal boats and participate as riders in the Canal Cruise that kicks off the festivities. Round-trip transportation will be provided at 3 p.m. leaving the parking lot at the Siegel Center immediately following the team send-off and will return to campus by 7 p.m. Email [email protected] by noon on Wednesday to reserve a spot.

I'm feeling a bit of school spirit; I might consider volunteering.

Both schools had big send-offs to San Antonia today, and each had police escorts from their campuses to Richmond International Airport.

VCU departed first and the University of Richmond team took a later flight. Here is the VCU video:

See U of R's departure in the next frame.
