VCU, which upset Kansas in the NCAA, is up against three other contenders for the ESPY Award to be announced on July 13th in Los Angeles.

From today's RTD:

Be sure to click on the link in the news story and vote for VCU.

In other local sports news, UofR's Justin Harper was selected by Cleveland (Cavaliers) in the second NBA round and promptly traded to Orlando Magic.

I think VCU's Skeen was hoping to be drafted also, but if he was it is not mentioned in today's paper.[

Is this why minor league teams are called farm clubs?

A monkey astride his Colley bronco herds the goats (or, are they rams?) at The Diamond before the Richmond Flying Squirrels take to the field :shok:

From the RTD: You have to diddle around with this site to see the video (it's on page 2.)

At 9:35 this morning, the Times Dispatch reported that Oman has withdrawn its bid for the 2015 Road World Cycling Championships.

The City of Muscat in Oman and Richmond are (were) the two finalists.

Will Richmond win by default? That's not an absolute given.

The governing body, Union Cycliste Internationale, will announce its decision today in Copenhagen at about 11:15AM (Eastern time) where a contingent of Richmonders is gathered.

Stay tuned...or drop into CAPITAL ALE HOUSE at 623 East Main Street where local cycling enthusiasts and others will watch the Danish proceeding via Skype beginning about 10:45AM..

VCU played California (Pa.) last night in an exhibition game at The Siegel Center and walked away with a 71 to 48 win.

I'm told that 6,675 watched the game which was delayed due to over-crowding in the students' seating sections behind the baskets. Meanwhile, there were about one thousand empty seats scattered among the higher priced areas of the arena.

The Sun Trust Richmond Marathon is Saturday, November 12th, and the weather forecast is for a perfect day.

About 45,000 ran the New York Marathon yesterday under bright sun, bit I haven't heard how many are signed up to participate in Richmond.

Here's the website:

http://www.richmondmarathon.com/

The Richmond Marathon has broken the record for participants in Saturday's run.

More than 17,000 have signed up and hopefuls can still register.
