55 West

I hated it when they changed the name East-West Expressway to the 408. It was fun talking to people who just had the first experience of taking a 90 degree turn off of I-4 East, to go east.

Well really a 90 degree left, 180 degree right. Two wrongs don't make a right, but three lefts do. Boy that interchange should have been fixed years ago, or not even built that way in the first place.

As the Orlando Weekly cleverly put it a couple years ago, "You know you're an Orlandoan if you go North to go East and go South to go West."

I think it's funny that South Street is a one-way street that only goes west and runs parallel to the East-West Expressway.

I'm sure there's gotta be a history buff here that can explain that one.

Maybe it was the southern most street in downtown when it was incorporated? I'm just trying to make sense of it.

Eh... Nevermind... too easy... (Why won't Groucho stop SAYING these things in my head??!!??)

Here's to you, corpkid. (Best read with a Bogart accent.)

(Edit: changed Corpskid to proper corpkid. Can you tell I marched Drum Corp.. er... Corps?)

Now that is an improvement! :w00t: Point and click? What next?! I'm going to go read a book!

Here's a good question - years from now, when this has been built, will there ever be a chance the Exchange will be open again with retail shops and the like? I'm not trying to relive the glory days or anything...well yes I am, it was fun to go there when it was open...(shoots a nasty look in the general direction of Disney and Universal) Does anyone know if this is feasible or should I just give up hope? It's okay, I can handle the truth (shuts eyes and holds breath.)

not to the extent it once was... lou pearlman's enterprises take up much of the property now. he's the guy that started the backstreet boys and n'sync, but from what i understand, most of his money is now coming from his aviation division. anyway, there are a few bars on the ground floor that you can enjoy including the improv comedy club.

Not in that old form Radiostatic. I do think that something cooler will emerge though. Also, there is no real need to get sentimental as much of Church St. Station was a creation by a developer. (I'm sure you know it has a twin in Las Vegas.) So, there wasn't a whole lot of historical value in the structure itself. Just the location.

I had no idea about the twin! That cheapens the whole thing for me then. In that case it's all for the better. Why is it 4 years after I move from downtown all this cool development happens? It bites! Argh!

Thanks for all the info! :)

Are you sure about that? Because it's common knowledge that Bob Snow (original owner and creator of Church St. Station) tried to develop another CSS in Vegas but it was a total flop due mainly to local politics and the big casino owners' influence peddling to make it's success impossible.

Unless you're talking about something else. But the Orlando knock-off closed after only about a month.

Also, the parts of "Church St. Station" that actually front Church St. ARE historical buildings.

I think you meant the "Church St. MARKET", which was built in the early 90's, as was the Exchange.
