Current data do not support the use of hydroxychloroquine for prophylaxis or treatment of COVID-19. There are no published trials of prophylaxis. Two trials of hydroxychloroquine treatment that are in the public domain, one non-peer reviewed, are premature analyses of trials whose conduct in both cases diverged from the published skeleton protocols registered on clinical trial sites. Neither they, nor three other negative trials that have since appeared, support the view that hydroxychloroquine is effective in the management of even mild COVID-19 disease.

Good article. It's too bad but certainly not a shock.

I also read pilots are not allowed to fly within 48? hours of taking this drug.

:D Open it up. Release the river. Way to go Germany: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-15/germany-likely-to-extend-national-lockdown-measures-until-may-3-k913n3v2

“German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced tentative steps to slowly start returning the country to normal, allowing some smaller shops to reopen next week and schools to gradually restart in early May.“

@gman430Lot different situation when the country followed initial rules and they have adequate and accurate testing which we still don't. Don't draw dumb parallels.

Also many states seem determined to wrest defeat from the jaws of victory. The latest after the Michigan travesty.

It'll probably work for them politically given how people don't do a lot of research on their own. But it could be turn out to be a really bad risk. Not that I give a crap.

You’re the one making “jokes” that you wish someone would die, assuming that tongue-in-cheek comments of that sort are ok and I’m the one who needs to calm down?

Regarding Trump’s touting of hydroxychloroquine, I have not seen one presser where he has advised anyone they should take the drug.
If you show me where I’m wrong I will bow out.

He has spoke in generalities saying the drug could be a game changer and maybe you can argue that he has been too cavalier in his advocacy of it, but ultimately the decision to prescribe it rests with a doctor or other provider who has the necessary scientific and medical expertise to cut through the crap, weigh the risks, and make the appropriate decision.  I think this notion that the president is being dangerous in his advocacy of hydroxychloroquine is drastically overstated, especially since thousands of Physicians are saying that they have had success with the drug and small studies have also shown some success.  Again it wouldn’t be going to a clinical trial at NIH if it didn’t show promise, and I think the presidents comments about hydroxychloroquine , at least the ones I’ve heard, have been in the vein of general optimism more so than a vein of ”uncredentialed” medical advice.  Again, though, if you can prove me wrong I will bow out.

Paah-leezzee, get down off your soapbox for heavens sake!

If I had a dollar for every Obama joke or discussion that hinted at killing him or him dying, I'd have another $1200.

Attacking religion and religious people is wrong, just as it is wrong to attack LGBT people, just as it is wrong to attack people of a different race, just as it is wrong to attack anyone who is different than you simply because they are different than you.

Religious beliefs are a personal choice one makes.

A person's race and sexual orientation or identity is something one is born with.

No need to compare them.

WTF is up with our testing ability? Our testing capacity is declining and the federal government seems completely unable or unwilling to fix the problems. Meanwhile airlines in other parts of the world are now administering COVID tests to passengers before they board and they have results in 10 minutes.

Governors say we don’t have enough testing capacity to reopen the economy:

What is wrong with this country???

I don't think the shortage of supplies like swabs and reagents has been fixed yet. It also may be impossible to fix because we over-optimized our inventories and supply chain and we can't do anything in this country except for the 'value-add' activities.

Also have MAGA Trump's tariffs to thank too. Crippling already struggling businesses.
