Truist - New HQ (BB&T-SunTrust Merger)

If it was just the letters and they looked like the rendering, it would still be tacky, but tolerable. This is like a billboard for a sleazy lawyer on the way to Myrtle Beach.

I always pictured the signage looking like the attached photo (can’t remember who made it – my bad). I figured Truist would do this right. But after driving past the letters the other day, it seems they have gone the cheap route and attached the letters to light brown boards to match the concrete. I am so disappointed Truist doesn’t see the architectural value of their new HQ. Covering up those architectural accents at the top is a huge mistake that cheapens the aesthetic of this beautiful tower. I’m bracing for the worst because that’s where I see this signage headed... Love the new lighting, but Truist is making a giant, cheap-looking mistake with their signage.

I'm just now realizing this isn't an official rendering. This is apparently "fan art" ? This actually looks good by comparison.

I cannot believe this happened to one of my favorite towers. I have a deep feeling of outrage, which doesn’t happen too often. 
 

Tact and taste is what is missing here. Not a good look Truist. Please re-evaluate this decision as it’s not going to go over well with the public.

I’m grateful that in this year of pandemic-induced layoffs, of a decimated hotel industry and the cancellation of hotel projects, and murmurings about flight from inner cities to suburban low-rise office space, we actually have a massive new banking HQ, bringing thousands of high-paying jobs right into city center (envy of any city in the sunbelt), and planning to construct additional offices.  Find myself not really caring about this signage at the moment.

You can be grateful for the the headquarters and disagree with their signage.  The tower they occupied is basically Charlotte’s Chrysler building, and should have been respected a little more. I’ve been very pro Truist, and I’m pro their lighting scheme, but this diminishes  the architecture of one of Charlotte’s classiest buildings.

My goodness.  I hope that signage is as cheap as it looks and gets blown off in the next wind storm (with no injuries of course).  I agree with others, the lighting scheme is okay, but the signage is awful.  The backer board behind the letters....how was that approved?!

I keep seeing pictures of this installation in progress and thinking, "this is a joke, right? we must be missing something here. we have to be. this can't really be the signage they designed and approved."

Absolutely friggin terrible signage. So disappointing. Ugly. Tacky. Disproportionate for the way the top of the building is. Covers aesthetic details at the top of the building.
Looks like a billboard. Like a bumper sticker on a Bentley.
If i banked with them I’d close my accounts.
I dislike this more than I dislike that the mechanical/elevator housing room sticks above the fencing on top of the Ally Building.

They spent like six dollars on deciding their name as 'Truist' so naturally they spent thirty dollars on the sign. It's not surprising. I think some good pranks could of been made with the picture too... "post presidential trump to have new 'Trump Tower' in Charlotte, NC."

Money doesn’t buy taste. Reminds of riding through Myers park and seeing how some of these millionaires decorate their beautiful houses with giant inflatable Christmas decorations.

Holy flying f*ck Batman, this looks terrible! It would have looked much better if the letters were cut out instead of having that ugly backing on them, and their size is just waaaay too big. the lighting scheme as night is gorgeous, but they really f*cked up the logo on the building.....

Had to go out front to see this in person. It’s actually worse in real life then these pictures.

It’s laughable, that’s my emotion. Actually physical laughter when I look at this.

I’m not fan of LU1, or the top of Ally , but I don’t laugh and shake my head with what I dislike about them. This thing here is a whole other level of critique that I’m not sure is even definable.

Honestly how does the person who had the final sign off on this project not loose his job. They need another line of work and CEO should step it. It’s humiliating.

And I’m not at all even coming from the stand point of what it does architecturally to the building. That’s irrelevant. Although entirely valid as well.

Maybe they’ll come to their senses when the higher-ups get a gander of this in real life.  It wouldn’t be nearly as bad if the smaller “T” logo were on all four sides -   like a pimple on an otherwise beautiful face, not like a giant cyst you try to avert with your eyes but you just can’t.

You can take the CEO out of eastern NC, but you can’t take the eastern NC out of the CEO.  Hopefully the Suntrust exec that succeeds the CEO is embarrassed enough to fix the sign.

This Thanksgiving I'm thankful for Truist desecrating my favorite tower in Charlotte. 

The remaining "TR" and "ST" for the east side are in the parking lot near the arena... should anyone want to dump red paint on them tonight and spare us the additional misery.

It reminds me of the best bar on earth (I bought a dog a shot here once and also saw a racoon fall out of the recessed ceiling, but not on the same night)

I don't think that was the look they were going for...

(and also a considerably less charming bar, but they do host the Mullet Toss)

[no dogs actually drank any liquor, but it did sit on a stool and tossed back a plastic shot glass full of dog treats while everybody else got a shot]

(it seems I have digressed. To get us back on topic: Damn that sign sucks!)

One of my most favorite buildings in uptown and Truist does THAT. They shouldn’t have even bothered with a sign if it was going to be that horrendous.

GD!  This makes the WeWork sign on the First Citizens tower over looking Romare look good...If you wanted to taunt a sign that obnoxious, you should have built your own tower, Truist...don't wreck the Hearst!  I'm sure it will look okay at night with it's lighting scheme, but dayum...
