This complex (or building) is currently u/c (or at least the site has been cleared recently).  It is at the front right of the complex adjacent to Guitar Center and extends to the east a bit towards the Fairfield Inn.  They already have  3-story apartment buildings behind to the east of the cinema, and a single 4-story U-shaped apartment building to the east of the garage.  This will be in addition to those other ones.

New $30 Million Residential Complex, Donnie's Donuts Coming To One Daytona

I've posted 3 images.  Front, back, and the site where it will go.  It's the grass area and most of the parking to the right towards that hotel.  It will fill in the land nicely.

I read it and thought  "cool". Bure realized this article is from 2021.

Yeah...but the site is cleared with a construction wall up ( for real), and dirt...unlike the project on Beach Street I posted on... sorry, no photo...yet...

new AC Marriott going in Daytona at A1A & Plaza Blvd., near the border with Ormond Beach.

it looks like this will be on a long since vacant lot sandwiched between DBR (Daytona Beach Resort aka former Holiday Inn from yester-decade, and a Hilton Garden Inn to the south, across the shopping center.  It will add good density there.

I can still smell the nicotine at Bell-Air Lanes as we speak. Ooof!

See?  We all do have some stuff in common.

Oh I remember having gone there before back when they had a real arcade...back in the stone ages.  Centipede, Ms. PacMan, etc...

Sounds like Daytona is getting a case of DTO disease....

DAYTONA BEACH ― Developers of the stalled project to build an oceanfront condo high-rise across from Steve's Famous Diner on A1A have gone back to the drawing board.

Rob Merrell, a land-use attorney who represents the developers, Gelcorp Industries, confirmed that his clients are now considering a drastically reduced project that would offer 166 condo units, as opposed to the originally proposed 267.

The tower would also be reduced in height to be more in line with neighboring condo buildings as opposed to the originally proposed 29 stories.

The project was heavily criticized by the majority of the people who packed the beachside restaurant at 2011 N. Atlantic Ave., according to several attendees.

The criticisms were about the tower's proposed height and overall size. Some also raised concerns over the potential for increased beach erosion in light of the extensive damage caused by tropical storms Ian and Nicole in September and November 2022.

Can't really blame the NIMBYS on this one, though.

Our local beach communities need to stop building these monstrosities right on the ocean anyway.

Let them build on the west side of A1-A and quit raping the shoreline.

The condo commandos who buy these units will still be able to sit on their balconies and look at the ocean.

that's how it is in Flagler...west side of A1A...

They might have should of kept larger swaths of land east of A1A as city/county parks with a few exceptions based on a master plan (master plan?  what's that?)

https://www.orlandosentinel.com/2023/11/02/norwegian-cruise-lines-new-ship-aqua-to-set-sail-at-port-canaveral/

Last week Norwegian Cruise Line announced that their next new ship, Norwegian Aqua, will sail its inaugural season from Port Canaveral in summer 2025 before moving to New York that fall and then settling in at Miami for the winter.

And on a related note, rumor is that Royal Caribbean's second Icon-class ship, Star of the Seas, will be based in Port Canaveral when it debuts in July 2025, although that official announcement is still a month away.

that adds to phenomenal "momentum" The Port has seen as of late.  There's lots of ridership, they've cut deals with new to market lines and new ships from existing customers.

it's interesting b/c Port Everglades and PortMiami both have a lot of infrastructure there; a lot of existing "real" terminals. Port Canaveral is still kind of catching up.  PC has 6 real terminals with parking garages for each (not counting the geodesic domes).  A 7th major terminal is under development now sooner than originally anticipated.

I think their willingness to cater to new tenants and shell out the cheddar has attracted more cruise business

There's even only 1 geodesic dome terminal remaining. The other two were torn down for the new "real" terminal.

Their current and announced cruise growth is absolutely insane, with total passenger capacity almost doubling in 5 years from what it was just before the pandemic to 2024-25.

Port Everglades' current problem (relative to Miami and Canaveral) is the strong seasonality of their cruise traffic. All three ports do great business in the winter, but then Princess, Celebrity, and Holland America send a lot  of their ships to Europe for the summer leaving very little at Port Everglades. Looking at summer 2024, for example, Port Everglades' eight cruise terminals will host only five ships doing 6-7 total sailings per week. By contrast, Port Canaveral's six terminals will still have 11 ships doing 15 cruises per week and Port Miami's eight(?) terminals will have 13 ships doing 17 cruises per week, and with generally larger ship sizes too. That strong year-round passenger traffic, and thus revenue, is giving Port Canaveral and Port Miami a lot more money to spend on big projects to add and improve their cruise terminals.

my thought was that although PC was the busiest cruise port this year (2022 numbers), I think they will be flip flopping with PortMiami from now on.  I think that 7th Cruise Terminal they are developing as we speak will really get them close to even keel with PortMiami (and Port Everglades (b/c DCL announced that they are sending a ship to Port Everglades in 2024- I'm assuming to fill that void you mentioned from those other cruise ships getting seasonally shifted to Europe).  It looks like Port Everglades is courting other cruise lines for ships to operate all year round.

Vacant Daytona Beach oceanfront lot getting 25-story, 270-unit condo-hotel

Article: https://www.news-journalonline.com/story/news/local/volusia/2023/12/21/daytona-beach-getting-new-oceanfront-120-million-condo-hotel-tower/71981566007/?fbclid=IwAR1gyhPTLA3GjsqdSJE68dvCM58hJ2tCiVnF-qAEyBhgmPfHTpZ7sOos_Ew

I think this is different from the projects posted above this post. Daytona Beach is really going vertical.

They were talking about it on the news this evening.

Four years to get all the permits.

Ten years until construction is completed.

The locals were against it.

Locals are against everything in Daytona. I understand where they are coming from but Daytona sorely needs investment dollars to come in and this would be the first hotel developed south of international speedway in 35 years. Hard to make the case that building is out of control or that one more restaurant in a beachside that desperately needs it is gonna overwhelm traffic, etc.

Personally I'd like to see a statewide ban on all new beach side construction.

Building right next to the beach destroys the dunes which in turn causes or exacerbates beach erosion, it's bad for wildlife, it ruins the natural beauty of the coastlines and every high-rise on the ocean side of every coastal highway is a disaster waiting to happen.

Let the developers build their high-rises across A1-A or whichever highway runs along a given section of coastline and leave the beaches the way they were meant to be.

Proposed development on the former site of the iconic glass bank building on A1A in Cocoa Beach.

Not a bad looking building, but nothing special either.

421516710-6946396338816770-1008465920862

The previous occupant of the site, a local landmark for decades, had fallen into disrepair after an eccentric attorney had purchased it, constructed a penthouse residence on the roof and lived there for a period of time before eventually killing himself in the parking lot after an extended legal battle with the city of Cocoa Beach.

At the time of its demolition, it was occupied by a lone cat who was trapped and relocated prior to the building being razed.
