Another fast-growing city, Nashville, is stuck as it tries to move to another political model in the 21st century and can’t quite get there.

In many ways, it’s quite reminiscent of our own travails,  with the politicians and real estate industrial complex sticking to a model from the last century while the populace has changed significantly:

Our townie high schools thumped the preps in the ‘burbs last night (Edgewater actually blew away Bishop Moore 49-6, which is only about a mile up the road, but I think it’s in OC instead of O-town so we’ll go with it).

Great job by Wadeview Park High (aka Boone), Jones and Edgewater. Charge On!

While we’re at it, I was also glad to see Winter Park dismissed Lake Nona 35-14. LEGACY TOWNS ROCK!

Stetson goes 1-0 with a great win against Warner (that’s in Lake Wales in case you wondered).

A tip of the stetson, to, ummmmm, the Hatters! Really cool is the fact they’ll be playing Princeton in a couple of weeks.

The Ivy Leaguers ain’t got nuthin’ on the boys from (DeLightful!) DeLand…

UCONN head football coach Randy Edsall announced he’s retiring at the end of the season after quite a loss last week to FCS member Holy Cross.

No word if @orange87 will accept the job to lead the independent back to glory.

For now, all we know is the infamous Civil ConFLiCT trophy is still missing…

Of course, UCONN can use one of @jrs2’s great chestnuts when he tries defend the vaunted bottom dwellers of the SEC like Vandy (who lost to, ummmm, ETSU) and Miss. State, who won  against 20-point underdog LA Tech by 1 point by saying, “they just weren’t motivated”.

To give you an idea just how useless (and useless for so long) the bottom half of the SEC is, did you know the University of Tampa (yep, the one in the old Plant Hotel downtown) beat Miss. State in 1968 and Vandy in 1972? Then, because they couldn’t afford the program, UT quit playing football in 1974. But, yet, the 2 losers still have the temerity to look down their noses at other programs. Most of all, look at just how many years they’ve been mediocre or worse.

Boston will very likely soon have a mayor that’s not a white male (hey, it’s only taken a couple of centuries):

A more diverse Boston prepares for a true changing of the guard

From The Washington Post

Meanwhile, Orlando’s Mayor For Life continues to be the latest of the WASPy white folk* that have been the rule with no exceptions since 1875. Interestingly, OC has done a much better job recently of electing diverse leaders (it’s traditionally been the opposite in cities around the country, especially in the South - that was a significant unspoken reason for consolidation in the late 20th century).

*Our one non-male mayor was all but hounded from office and has pretty much been erased from acknowledgement in town.

OK, all you UP’ers with the Buddy bromance going on. You really need to get your man over to Brooks Brothers or Bloomie’s stat and get him out of that Pajama Effect look.

While you’re at it, can we please do something about that combover?

I leave it in your capable hands…

Orlando buys 5 acres in Parramore in $9.5 million deal, but has no plans for it yet
