Metro Public Works is targeting a Aug. 31 opening to vehicles, cyclists and walkers related to its Division Street Extension, Bridge, and Complete Street Project nearing completion in SoBro. 

Kelly Brockman, MPW spokeswoman, said some work on the street will still be underway after that date. “Final completion will be Nov. 30,” she said. “That includes landscaping and any other final touches.

”The street project (which includes a serpentine viaduct that hugs the building home to Tennessee Brew Works) spans one-half-mile from Eighth Avenue South on the west to Second Avenue South on the east.

The Division Street Extension will offer LED lighting, landscaping and bike lanes.

Metro has partnered with Nashville-based Gresham, Smith & Partners, Nashville-based Bell & Associates Construction and HDR | ICA Engineering of Omaha, Nebraska, on the project.

The balustrades are a nice touch.   This should be a great addition in terms of both form and function.

Right! How long has this been going on? It's just a bridge. I know there was a lot of grading and infrastructure involved, but it's still a short little bridge.

^ ^ ^ The span is actually about 350 feet and curved.  There was a tremendous amount of rock that had to be brought in to create the ramp leading up to the actual metal framework.  Indeed, it probably could've been done more quickly, but it isn't a little project.

The Gossett (5 stories, 376 units, restaurant/retail) is nearing completion.  Some units on the north end are already being leased.

University offerings will help downtown achieve that coveted 24-hour city designation. It would be awesome to see traditional students living in the area someday. Private universities are probably the best bet for such hope. I don't foresee TSU making waves with their downtown campus since they've got their own ambitious growth plans for the main campus.
