It is also contrary to the practice of providing affordable housing. If you require more expensive materials, the rent/purchase cost will go up accordingly. You will find "minimum house size" requirements in a lot of subdivisions, and I think it's a gross way to keep out people that can't afford gargantuan homes. 

(I would also offer that just making the building brick doesn't make it attractive.)

The Altura Townhomes under construction have like a non-existent backyard.  I was shocked to see just how close the framing is to the existing neighboring building.   I guess everyone is paying for the SF and location.

I thought the same thing. Literally both sides have terrible views imo. But I guess that’s what townhome living gets you. Not for me.

I’m talking about the views from the backyard. As in eye level view of what’s behind you not view of the city from above

This is going to be my exact view. Wasn't at all worried about the back yard. Most townhouses don't even have ground level patio space when they have garages. I'll be spending most of my outdoor time up here.

ditto, I'm looking for a view and space to relax. If I buy one I'll put planters along the railing, and a green wall of lettuce and herbs. No need for a fussy yard

Each to his own. This is my view from the back door of my condo. I find it relaxing. Many birds, squirrels, owls, raccoons and occasionally the sound of deer in the wood at the bottom of the fence. There is a house in that distance just visible. This is in the Freedom Park area. A view of the buildings does so much less for my soul. 

The garden area is comfortable for up to four which is the limit of my outdoor entertaining.

Wait you can see a house from your back yard?  Jeez, how on earth do you live like that?  I can't see any:   Also the best part is I'm only 6.5 miles from the center city...
