So I happen to think that this group, as much as we like to argue and banter, may actually have the right combination of thinkers and professionals to pull off a good proposal for this competition. Being very familiar with San Francisco's Trans Bay terminsl, watching so much money poured into a huge transit station over 5 years of construction, and still not in use to this day other than the bus station part, it really is sad to see the lost potential and wasted money. I know there isn't much rush since the actual high speed rail is still years away, but going ahead and building the station now would at least secure the project and start spurring other development around the area that is hesitant till this gets off the ground. The wall of underutilized land between uptown and gateway village is truly the next boom area of uptown.
  4. After living in San Francisco, I can promise you CATS is way better run and managed than the disastrous SF Muni. If I made it to work on time once a week, I was winning.
  5. They do look pretty good. Definitely keeping in the style of what's been going up in the area lately. The thing that really sticks out though to me in this rendering is just how lame the Hawk is. SO uninspiring and lacking any creativity whatsoever. Glad it will be lost in the many projects around it.
  6. I do remember it, also was a bit of a sex club towards the end if I remember correctly. Shame Jim Gross burned it down. >:) The odd thing is it was actually completely demolished only to be rebuilt, and I was going to ask if anyone here knew why or what it is being used for. I can't imagine that land is going to last much longer in this state, as all of those remaining buidings are easily demolishable for larger development.
  7. They don't even try to fit in. The windows are tiny and they do nothing to take advantage of the lots they are built on. How is the city allowing them to be permitted. They're basically three story trailer homes. So disappointing!
  8. I wouldn't count any Tepper initiatives till those eggs hatch! But you are aboslutely correct in every other aspect that this corner (which I live on) is going to be very dense with thousands of new residents, including those in the building itself, that would definitely appreciate a good restaurant, bar or market within a few blocks. Hell, I'd even settle for a 7-Eleven at this point! I am very curous to what retail is going in the bottom of the Prospect across the street from me. There are like 5 or 6 retail/commercial suites along the Mint st. side. I think it's just rediculoius that the city would approve this size of developement without any alocated retail space in such a foot trafficed zone.
  9. Got to participate in a walking tour of the Link Apartments yesterday. Definitely impressed with how it's turning out. Didn't get many pictures in the apartments but they're going to be very nice with top of the line, smart appliances and all energy efficient as well, including air-conditioning with variable speed fans. Views are pretty spectacular! Also noticed that the Charlotte Knife and Saw building is officially for sale, with "Renovations coming" on the sign. Curious what they have in mind for the lot.

  11. It will very likely cover up the peaks of the Bank of America building and Duke Energy Center towers you can just barely see in this picture. I do have a rooftop patio that I will probably still see them from, but it will most likely cut out everything below the crowns. The units further down, away from Mint Street will be less affected as they will probably see around the new building more.
  12. I have yet to see the rendering, but yes, I imagine that will be the nail in the coffin for my uptown view. Hopefully the 19 story building will be decent to look at. I am not at all impressed with the Prospect nextdoor here, very dull and didn't cary over the contemporary feel that the original black and white renderings depicted. If anyone has a rendering of the tower going up on Moorehead, I'm definitely curious!
  13. You're telling me! And as I live in those townhomes, I really wasn't too happy getting boxed in either! But I guess that's what you get for living in such a changing neighborhood. I'll gladly take the added retail and development, just miss my view!

  16. Anyone know what is slated for this lot back and across from Little Hardware? Saw some soil testing being done, and it is a prime large lot begging for something cool to be built there.

  18. so many ugly gravel parking lots around here and yet they chose to tear down this building with that beautiful Magnolia tree. I totally agree. In the end, it's based on lot size, shape and price, I get it, but let's try to develop these ugly flat lots before destroying things already built, and I wish they would try to save the trees. Only thing I don't like about the Gold District is the lack of trees around here.
  19. Happy to say I was part of the San Francisco exodus, and adding back to Charlotte's growth this last year. Everyone I knew in SF left the city. Most moved to LA, Palm Springs, Tahoe, Texas and Idaho. The recovery will take years before SF is back to how it was pre-covid, and hopefully cleaned up and better.
  20. They are definitely working overtime now on the Spectrum and Grubb apartments. Parking deck is up to second floor and moving onto third for Spectrum, and Grubb is making fast gains with the first level being poured.
  21. Everything about this building was lazy, compared to the original rendering many years ago. The crown looks like an aluminum sided fence, and at night it's just translucent enough to see the parking garage quality lights behind it. The street level retail that was supposed to be an open air mall was dialed down to 5 restaurant spaces and an ice cream window. The Marriott, actually is ok, but definitely nothing to write home about, and the garage, which is an enormous visible wall, looks unfinished, facing one of the most prominent entrances to uptown. Very little thought was put into this building at most levels.
  22. Agree with you completely. I have seen these hideous duplexes popping up everywhere around uptown and I just can't believe how little effort was put into the design. It doesn't just avoid fitting in, it blatantly offends everything around it. So sad.
  23. Have you ever been over the Palmer street Arcade Bar? It's a gem, quite a hidden secret over here. I am making it a regular hang out. All the arcade games are free to play and it's quite nice inside, even if you would never know it from the outside.
